not sure what you mean for "Multi-categories"
if you intend how they are in since joomla 1.6
i think of yes, but i'm not a core developer
p.s
i think there will not be a 1.8 but a 2.5

Simple answer is no because its a really bad thing to do for SEO. Having duplicate content in multiple places is not good

Re: Does anyone know if Multi-categories will be in Joomla 1
Hi,
thanks for your quick response.
Myself would love it as built-in instead of another plugin. Are you sure that SEO comes before workflow ? I remember that I had to reproduce this functionallity quite often by painful and dirty tricks using modules and plugins. Its also very ugly to maintain btw. A tree structure makes it easy for the developer but I think the world is not made out of one tree only, no ?
However, I've just added Joomla 1.7 to our app-studio and that's why I was interested. Do I get this sort of news from the source trunk or the google group btw ?
thanks,g

Assigning multiple categories to an article does NOT mean "Having duplicate content in multiple places". It means you can filter lists of articles in a flexible way. This is why I have to use Zoo for my content currently. I'm moving to Seblod, but it has to use a custom trick for this, too. Even though Seblod uses Joomla articles, you have to refrain from using Joomla categories if you want to do multiple ones.
Are there really no plans for multi-category articles? Even tags?

Let's take a look at what Joss Sanglier thinks about the subject:

Joss Sanglier wrote:The category system in Joomla needs to be central to this new system and consideration
should be given to how it is managed and operated.
Currently, the category system can be used by the Content system and additional
extensions. However, although they use the same basic system, there is no true correlation
between them. This leads to potential problems when organising data that belongs to
completely different datasets – they cannot be associated by a common category.
The current system needs to be changed in two ways:
1. ALL uses of the category system should be exposed so that any new
content/datasets (including those created by third party components and modules)
can use common categories
2. Any content should be able to be associated to more than one category.

Re: Does anyone know if Multi-categories will be in Joomla 1
We developed a component for Multicategories for Joomla and K2. We also just recently launched a 3 in 1 Component that lets you assign Modules and Menus from the Article page. Saves us tons of time on big projects.

Re: Does anyone know if Multi-categories will be in Joomla 1
can't agree more with Beluga, it has to be built-in. Same for tag clouds and any other indexer related issues. Doing that with a 3th party involves too many side effects, usally on the shoulders on the site holder. The tag/category builder should show up everywhere related to content creation, optional.

Re: Does anyone know if Multi-categories will be in Joomla 1
this is probably because of an old habit called "step-by-step". there isn't an indexer aside the query cache in 2.5/3 yet,...kidding.mandville wrote:why are people even discussion 1.8 that doesnt even exist or will exist. ?

Brian I'm absolutely agree with you . Google look bad to websites that have duplicate in multiple places content. And a lot of new bloggers do this mistake. I just advice them don't even think about it .brian wrote:Simple answer is no because its a really bad thing to do for SEO. Having duplicate content in multiple places is not good

It really is: I just had one of my sites wrecked by Google's last Panda update (I think it was September 28th) - that was down to having duplicate content I believe.brian wrote:Simple answer is no because its a really bad thing to do for SEO. Having duplicate content in multiple places is not good
