2 things, Joomla Articles for SitePoint.com & Accessibility

Post by astroboysoup » Mon Nov 24, 2014 6:00 am

Hey there Everyone

Some of you know that I'm working as a Community Leadership Team member for the Joomla project and there are a few initiatives that I've started working on for the project and would love others to join in on.

1) External Outreach Beyond Our Community
We have an opportunity at the moment for provide some great articles about Joomla for SitePoint.com
SitePoint have a huge online development community which is most fille with Larvel, PHP and WordPress developers but there is room and interest for Joomla related articles. It is a perfect opportunity for people to help spread right and correct information about Joomla.

We've started gathering a few article submission ideas and compiling them in a list here where the editor at SitePoint will look over and make her selection from the list.

I really hope some more of the Australian community here can jump in and get involved with this and start help spreading why we love using Joomla and correct information about the CMS to communities outside of our own.

2) Accessibility for Joomla
Accessibility and removing the barriers for people to be able to publish and access information online is something that I've always worked in and have been passionate about.

We have a unique opportunity at the moment in the Joomla space to make Joomla 100% accessible on the front end and the backend as a default.

I've started writing a proposal at the moment to rally contributors to the project and gather ideas and information from people that have done it before in Joomla 1, 1.5 and 2.5 days.

We need to hit that reset switch and start it all up again.

Please have a look over the current proposal that I have put together and add in any feedback or ideas that you may have. I'd really appreciate it.

Would love to hear any comments, feedback or ideas in regards to both of these initiatives for Joomla and would love to see you all contribute in some way.

Nice list of potential articles. Personally, I prefer articles that present practical solutions/guides than those about literature (such as the first 2). On the other hand, articles praising the benefits of Joomla might earn some converts, which is always good.

The on-site SEO optimization will be an excellent post - provided it doesn't entail users to install 3rd party extensions.

It's been ages since I bumped into an article from SitePoint so I wonder whether they are still as strong as before (e.g. back in 2009-2010).

In any case, I think this is an excellent initiative.

As for Joomla's accessibility, I think it's an excellent idea, particularly because provinces here in Canada are drafting laws so that all Canadian websites meet a minimum standard when it comes to accessibility. See: http://www.mcss.gov.on.ca/en/mcss/progr ... bsite.aspx

Huge thanks for that article there ItOctopus?

I've been told also that the Israeli Government has made that mandatory as well for all public sector websites too.

It's only a matter of time before other Governments follow suit and make those recommendations.
