J!4 - Custom Content-Types via XML + Workflows

With the introduction of custom fields, I was wondering if we could also introduce custom content-types to differentiate data from the traditional Articles-type. I assume it would just be a collection of field groups along with some basic options.

Speaking to options though and regarding media files as they relate to a content-item: media-files should be sandboxed in directories that differentiate doctype (/articles/) and content-item (/articles/article#123).

pretty please
:D

Adding to the topic...

What if instead of expanding the database tables to accommodate new fields, content-types (articles) are described using XML. The content-items can then be stored in a single table cell. SQL query gets you to the cell, and Xpath helps you sort through the data in the cell.

The next step then would be to introduce Workflows.

Workflows are a fundamental concept in PLM, ERP, and PDM systems. Aras PLM, EPDM/PDM Pro are good examples.

Perhaps Workflows in Joomla would be a means of tying together content-types and invoking plugins, if work needs done.
