Grey out Menus with no Access Permission

Post by ukdev » Fri Oct 05, 2018 8:07 pm

Idea: provide an option to show but "grey out" Menus where the user has no access ... yet

e.g. Show Menu items that would be available if the user logs ins. This would entice the user to log in to see more, instead of leaving them wondering what the point is to log in.

e.g.2 a menu item would show that a club directory is available, but only if the user logs in.

This could be a system wide default [Show/Hide] and a menu specific override for items that require more that "Registered" ACL.

Have you tried using some membership component?
For example this one:

From my experience with it I know it has that exact option.
If you do not want to use third party components you should read this topic:

Blog pages (with readmore to Registered pages) gives much more incentive for people to login than a greyed out menu ever would.

There is an Option "Show Un-authorised Links" in the Menu Module.

To expand on Per Yngve Berg suggestion

"Show Un-authorised Links" allows the intro text (of Articles the visitor or logged in user that does not have access) to see/not see the intro text. Clicking the readmore then requires (the visitor or logged in user that does not have access) to login.
