Blackpool

Post by Nortus » Mon Jul 07, 2008 11:59 am

How do!

This is my first Joomla project that I am actually going to run myself.
It is based upon my home town of Blackpool and will become a major place of reference for visitors to the town providing town history and an extensive business directory relating to all business types in Blackpool.

The site will be earning a small wage for me and my missus however it is mostly a labor of love and most of the work we will be doing through the site will be for local charities.

Extra Components/Modules -
Banners Manager
JEvents
Fireboard
JCE
JoomlaStats
SOBI2 - with gallery plugin.
UddleIM
Ajax Header Rotator
sh404SEF
Tabs & Slides in content items

Quite a few features of the site are not yet active however I would really appreciate comments on the 'events calender' as I am finding it tricky to really style it into something I feel looks good enough.
I have used JEvents - does anybody have any good links to sites that have got into the advanced styling of this - just for a little inspiration.

Your time will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Very nice site Matty, the only thing i could suggest now is some SEO friendly URL's. Use .htaccess / mod-rewrite for this - google will love it.

Wow! Lots of content and a nice niche site.

You do need to get Search Engine friendly URLs (I used ARTIO Sef which works ok ... mostly).

Also change the favicon - not absolutely necessary but it looks nice and is useful is someone book marks your site.

I'd go with an image of the Tower but it's up to you!

Thanks for the comments

Ive added sh404SEF for the SEO url's.
Installed and works like a charm.

Ive also added some panels to the home page content item and the tabs and slides plug-in for the ads page.
I think it looks a little better than going straight into text.

I'll get onto the Favicon soon but I'm going to have another bash at styling the events calendar for now.
I'll post when I've finished with it but for now if anyone does have any links to any JEvents calendars that have been well styled I would still much appreciate it.

(Im almost thinking bout trying the google calendar - looks tasty.)

How do.
I used sh404sef for the url's.
Twas very easy to install as there is no need to mess with .htaccess
Follow the instructions provided and bingo.

http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/

Also, my site is now live and I start the local marketing campaign from Monday 28th July.
There will be around 20 new pages of content and offers added on this date so I will be hoping for a few opinions on a couple of the pages.

But thats another thing.

Ciao

The domain and the site idea have been sold onto a larger company that are redeveloping the whole thing with asp.net
Tis probably best if a mod could remove this thread.
