Once again MOBILE WEBSITE with Joomla!!!!!! some feedback needed!!
Hi there, i want you guys take a look to my site, i'm still working on it, so there is lot of stuff that is not done yet. i don't know a lot of people with mobile phones that can browse the internet.
My concern is that the site will work or display over the others mobile browsers.
This is my first joomla site and i think it's great and easy to work with. Also there is not a lot of components that works on IE mobile, but i'm dealing with it Tongue .
Well enjoy it!! and please don't be so hard on me, it is not done yet.
Website URL: http://osmanian.com
Joomla! version: 1.0.11
Template: xe_mobile
Additional Extensions (Components, Modules, Plug ins): jim, JCal Pro, Noah Classifieds, etc, etc.
Custom Development: my own...
Other Features:----
Three (at least) specific areas of my site that I'd like feedback on (design, code, graphics, etc.): all over, if you can look at it on a phone
hey administrators!!! sorry for not reading the instructions of how to post, but for courtesy i would not take your posting away, thanks!

Your posting was not taken away, it was moved here: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/board,359.0.html for you to modify. Now that you've started a new thread, I'll delete that one. Thanks.

I tried http://www.osmanian.com on the mobile phone emulator at http://emulator.mtld.mobi/emulator.php and saw nothing.
Please tell me what's up. I want to develop a .mobi mobile site with Joomla as well, and am excited to see what you did.

i cant see your site at all???
however i designed a site using joomla specifically for cell phones ... http://www.lmpoker.mobi
It will work on the emulator and it also gets a 5/5 on the ready test too http://mr.dev.mobi/ !
i had to use the accessibility patch to make joomla tabless though!

Awesome. Nice work. It can be done!
I have to check out this accessibility extension you speak of, does it run on 1.0.12?
Can you recommend where I may find some good references to get started with my first Joomla based mobile site? Do you have any words of advise, tips, pointers?
I'm all in. Kenny Roger's has nothin' on me.
Cheers.

That's a very cool looking site! I was hoping to get round to developing a .mobi site myself with Joomla, what do you mean by the accessibility patch to make joomla tabless? Sorry if it's a stupid question but I've never heard of that before, I'm kinda new!sa247 wrote: i had to use the accessibility patch to make joomla tabless though!

Re: Once again MOBILE WEBSITE with Joomla!!!!!! some feedback needed!!
Thanks for the positive feedback!
Biggest input i can think of is just keep it simple.
Cell phones browsers (most use a variation of the openwave browser) handle the display of tables differently, therefore tables are best not to be used. Hence the accessibility all css tabless joomla patch is the perfect answer - i found it here... http://forge.joomla.org/sf/go/proj1120 thanks to the guys at a8ejoomla for this patch! It basically strips out all the tables in joomla and replaces them with div tags.
Cell phone browsers unlike desktop browsers are unforgiving so you need to make sure your code is correct - add this link to your favorites http://pc.dev.mobi/ lots of info here, an emulator and site tester that evaluates your .mobi site.
Having done a ton of joomla sites and having a few .mobi sites under my belt it seemed that combining the two would be the best solution - they really are simple to do once you have the headers and that sorted out. Almost like basic HTML!
With 3GP availibility i have also added in video to some of my sites although i havent tested this with joomla am sure it will work though.
i know my site isnt 100% perfect but for now it works for what my client and i need it for.
JOSEY: the patch does does run on 1.0.12 thats what i was using for the lmpoker site
Incidentally on a completely different note i use flash a lot and am thinking that you can use the tabless layout with div tags to insert content into an active flash site using swfobject

Accessible (a8e) Joomla! is a Joomla! fork that attempts to conform to accessibility guidelines and standards (e.g. W3C ) by removing table layout found in the Joomla core files. It is a core hack patch package which means you will need to overwrite the core files. There is no other way to do this until J!1.5 is stable.CelticDragon wrote:That's a very cool looking site! So not a silly question at all, go check it out: http://forge.joomla.org/sf/projects/accessible_joomla

Re: Once again MOBILE WEBSITE with Joomla!!!!!! some feedback
hi
all,
i like the idea of making joomla table less,
but http://www.a8e.org is not following joomla1.5
The latest release from a8e is joomla 1.0.15.
Why cant the joomla core team can make joomla 1.5.11 table less.
Table less/ div based design is the latest technology and reduces the loading time.
Also positioning and changing positions is more easy in DIV.
And accoring to w3c tables must be used for tabular data and not for layout.
Lets Discuss.
