Extension Manager Update

Post by Gambalunga » Tue Dec 07, 2010 8:27 pm

I know it is still a beta release but I find the Extension Manager Update very clunky. This is a shame because it is a feature that I was really looking for in 1.6

When I try to run it I get the following error:
* BZip2 Not Supported
* Install path does not exist
Since I am using a "dedicated" Joomla host, joomlahost.it, I would assume that they would eventually comply with any requirements of 1.6.

WordPress is a very different system to Joomla but the update process is simple and seamless. The availability of updates is notified automatically when you log in to the back end and the can be installed automatically.

I am not advocating WP as an alternative to Joomla, so no flames please. But someone in Joomla development needs to look at how other people do these things before re-inventing the wheel (and one with a flat tyre at that). Whilst not pushing WP, which is a good system for blogs, I do like the way you can do two things. The first is search for and install extensions directly within the back end administration and the second is that they can be kept updated without any particular gymnastics on the part of the site administrator.

Ciao a tutti
I thought I was retired but now I discover I am just tired!

Hi, someone can tell me how to solve this problem?

I have installed the "beta 13" and I want to upgrade to the "final version" of joomla 1.6.

Thanks.

I am having the exact same error. I am running:
Version: Joomla 1.6RC1
Hosting: Godaddy Linux Grid Hosting
I can give a phpinfo if that helps.

If there isn't a fix for the update manager maybe someone could tell me how to manually update without losing all the work I have done so far.

Ok so I am totally willing to put some time into troubleshooting this if someone has any ideas. I can't be the only one having this problem. I normally have no problems with Joomla! on godaddy hosting.

Check out the bread crumb at the top of the forum.

Could also be its no longer in RC status.
