Looking to remove "Articles" header

Post by JarinArenos » Tue Jun 14, 2011 1:50 am

So, I'm trying to use an article to create a semi-static user editable page, like I always did in previous versions (create article, add to main menu as "single article" for link). Problem is, now where I have <jdoc:include type="component" /> in the template, it adds a large <h1>Articles</h1> at the top of the page where it never was before. I've tried turning off everything I can find in article options, but I can't get it to go away.

See here. Yes, it's a horrible template, and I suck at Joomla, I know ("component" is the only actual template tag on the page currently). Any way to solve this little issue though, aside from digging into the core component display code and gutting that particular header line?

'Show Parent' in Options (button) (articles tab) - that should be it.

I thought that would be it too, but "show parent" is set to "hide"

Setting it to "show" adds the word "Details" between the "Articles" header and the actual content.

Any other suggestions here? I sort of brute forced it because I noticed that the "Articles" was in <h1> tags, so I simply set h1 to "hidden" in the stylesheet, but I'd like to clean this up if possible.

I banged my head against this for quite a while, but just hiding <h1> in the stylesheet seemed to be the only solution. At least hidden objects don't leave unsightly gaps on the page, so the end result is a random "archives" header in your HTML source, and the inability to use <h1> tags elsewhere.

The <h1>Articles</h1> seems to be shown if the article is viewed without being tied to a specific menu item. Is that the case for you?

I observed it even when tied to a specific menu item, as I recall. However, the project I was working on is long over, so I can't go back and check.

It's the Page Title. Turn it off at the menu item.

Cxee,

There are a variety of things that could be going on here. For your example, is the article linked to a menu item?

If the page being shown is not the active menu item (because there is no Itemid), the page heading defaults to the language string "JGLOBAL_ARTICLES".

In the core template file for an article (default.php), the parameter "show_page_heading" has a default value of 1, or Show. However, this parameter can only be set in a menu item. When a menu item doesn't exist, the page heading will always be shown.

I'd suggest creating a template override and changing the default value of "show_page_heading" to 0 like:

Code: Select all

<?php if ($this->params->get('show_page_heading', 0)) : ?>

I'm having the same problem. Only showing on page though:
http://glimmag.com/component/content/ar ... nsors.html

I tried entering the code you suggested under template, css overrides h1 and extra css. Neither option worked. Where does this override go?

Source code is calling it a component heading.
Thanks!

Hi -
Having the same issue also but I found this - it doesn't fix it, really, but at least it explains it...

I found that this:
Another way to fix this problem is provided by Harshal:

1. Edit this file in your FTP Manager – Components/com_content/views/article/view_html.php

2. In this file earch and comment out below line.
// $this->params->def(‘page_heading’, JText::_(‘JGLOBAL_ARTICLES’));
solved my issue.

Going to menu item for the page/article in question,
copying the link given there,
inserting as link on static link (in the footer)
No more article header :-)

Thanks, jrf7

I had the same issue. For me, it was where the link was coming from. I had a Custom HTML module linking to a page that was showing "article" as the heading. I switched my HTML editor to JCE, and created the URL hyperlinks through the content browser, instead of copying and pasting the article links into the URL field.

Its not always that. For example, linking to inline content w/JCE through a popup, or to any article not tied to a menu item.

That is what causes this issue. The problem is that it should be a lot easier to fix. Basically, now if you link to anything not in a menu you risk showing this "articles" h1 tag. The fixes are
Edit that file in previous post
Make a menu item displaying the article, and then link to the menu item
So there, thats how you fix -- but there should just be a radio button or something that can toggle this. Joomla is very user friendly in many ways, so I see this happening in the near future :)

I've run into a similar problem.
We just started using 2.5.
I have 5 articles/pages. Each one is linked to a menu item.
The <h1 class="title">'page title'</h1> shows up on every page.
Whether or not is turned off under Article Manager> Option icon, or in the article under Article Options, or in menu under Article Option or the Page Display Options.
There has to be an easier, cleaner way to fix this other than adding a visibility:hidden style or hacking the code. What good are all the show/hide options if they don't mean anything?

If the links are truly using a menu item (Itemid in the url) you can set turn off the page title in that menu item page parameters

The Page Title in that menu item is turned off. Everything that references a Page Title, Page Heading, or Show Title in the Article and Menu is turned off.

That is a SEF URL. You have to turn off SEF URL in Global Configuration to see the real URL.

Here is the URL, with the SEF links shut off.
http://idnetpro.com/joomla25/index.php? ... Itemid=105

The Page Title still shows up. I have everything shut off. Why does the Page Title still show up?

On this page you can see it as About Us Page Title. In the article manager I have Show Title set to hide in both the global Options and under Article Options within the page.

In Joomla 1.5 this would normally shut off the part that says About Us Page Title. In this version, 2.5, it doesn't.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I had the same problem until I found this article:

http://www.cmsmind.com/joomla-remove-h1-tag-articles/

Follow the steps used for Joomla 1.6.

Basically, set all of your articles to some category. Create a menu that has one item, a category blog pointing to the category you created. Simply do not display the menu.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the article. However, my articles are already in a menu and a category. I think I will just use css to shut this off and hope a better version of 2.5 comes out. I will go back to 1.5.24 until 2.5 isn't as buggy.

ebizteam: Have you turned off Page Title on Menu item 105?

The Itemid=xx is the Menu Item that is used.

I agree with everyone else. Turning off a page title should not be this hard!!!

I have over 1,200 articles with another 4,000 to come. I am not going back and open all those articles just because I upgraded from Joomla 1.5 to 2.5!!!

And I've turned off every option possible at the menu and category level.

I concur with Wayne Web. This really needs a radio button link to turn off this "option"!

This may help some people. I was having this problem with JCE popups that had the unwanted 'Articles' header. I manually replaced the full article link containing the item id with the alias link for that article (the field below the title on the Article's page). This got rid of it for me.

Here's another approach: use the "language" override feature of Joomla 2.5.

Go to /Extensions /Language Manager /Overrides

Click "New"

Enter "JGLOBAL_ARTICLES" (without the quote marks) for the "Language Constant."

Leave the "Text" blank.

Save your override ... this should help.
