Registered users problem

Post by g4ztd » Sat Oct 06, 2012 9:42 pm

:'( Hello All
I have set up a group of called Registered users, however when a user logs in he is able to edit all my articles as well as delete etc

I have messed about with the permissions in various places and have not managed to stop them from doing any of this.

Most of the time when I alter the permissions it states there is a Conflict ?

Its really doing my head in as all I want them to be able to do is see posts that they can not see unless they log on

Please can any one help??

Thanks :(

Set all the Permissions back to their original settings.

Restrict Articles to only 'Registered' by setting the view level of the Article and menu item.

Have you extra user groups that you need or do you need just the standard ones ?

Can you make a backup of your database using your Host's CP ?

Have you used phpMyAdmin to access the database ?

It may be easier to replace the relevant database tables.

I will try and arrange the questions so you give accurate and precise answers
  1. Have you extra user groups that you need or do you need just the standard ones ?
OK the answer to that is that you don't have extra groups other than the one you mentioned.
  2. Can you make a backup of your database using your Host's CP ?
    yes or no
  3. Have you used phpMyAdmin to access the database ?
    yes or no
  4. Did you alter any permissions for the standard groups or just the one that you added ?
    Forgot to ask that before

First look in your Host's Control Panel and find the button to back up your database. If you can't find it then check their help or ask their support. You may need to go into phpMyAdmin to back up the database or it may be a different menu item. But that will be specific to your Host's CP.

When you have backed up your database and saved it to your PC then post back here for the next step. It will be easier than you think. The process will be not much different than saving a word processor document.

And the restore of the specific tables will be much the same as inserting an image into a word processor document.

An 8 year old can do it.

Exported the Assets table from a fresh install of 2.5.7 with sample data.
Report was with the command 'REPLACE INTO' instead of the normal 'INSERT INTO'
Changed the prefix to that of the OP's user database.

It took only a few minutes to do it ... but did it work ?

Also create a user group with Registered as Parent then only alter the Permissions for that user group. That way the default user groups remain the same.

I don't know a lot ... just a few things. Have a look at http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?p ... 3#p2905203 it may help with what you were initially trying to achieve ?
