I have the same issue. Upgraded today from 2.5.9 to 10, and all russian and other languages articles giving 404 error now. Only english site is OK. Cant find solution so far. "show intro text"-ON .. is not solution in this case also.

not good case for clients to see all articles giving errors...
Thank You!
Edit: I can add that if I use update-purge cache then it releases something and when I ask to find updates then it gives error:
Update: :Extension: Could not open http://gruz.org.ua/images/stories/files ... _ru_ru.xml
and the same for all languages.
Anyone can help?

Thank You!

Now I found that in Site-System information-Directory permissions the configuration.php is UNWRITABLE. All others are writable.
Think something is stuck there, - but how to make it writable?
Maybe this is the solution we are looking for?
Are we alone with this problem? Noone else has it? Is there somwhere place to get answer?

Same issue here!
The second language of the site is in Bulgarian. I think that for some reason the UTF-8 is no longer working, but I may be wrong.
Help please!
Thank you.

At the same time in same page with this multilanguage and articles missing issue, Virtuemart admin panel shows error:
vmdebug self::$_jpConfig->lang et_ee
vmdebug vmTime: loadConfig db no: 0.00919198989868
maybe this small footprint helps someone to find out from where is our problem comes up...
All that mess came up with update from 2.5.9 to 2.5.10 ...very frustating... but yes, this frustration does not help... hope some boat will find us from this ocean... so far feels like Robinson Crusoe...

OK latest update! I tried updating to joomla 2.5.11 with the patch, but unfortunately NO LUCK!
Site is still broken and works only in English but not in Bulgarian.... I think the problem comes from the Cyrillic symbols.
Any luck anyone?

Nope, same here. I jumped onto 2.5.11, hoping for the best, but not yet.
Only main language works (french here), all 4 others are failing and users are complaining.
Though life for the webmaster...

Re: after update to 2.5.10 my multilanguage site stop workin
For helping joomla Admin to find direction, as I understand, tring thru different combinations here, this was happened because some change in language filter or somewhere around it. Can this placed back as it was 2.5.9 so that language backages can work as they were in 2.5.9 version. Or what we need to change, is the question too of course.
So far, I directing all clients thru "attention" banner to english site where they can find contacts etc. But looking for solution of course.
Thanks momchilcho for opening Google+ discussion!
And this is not cyrillic alphabet issue as you mentioned

Do you have the multi lingual status module enabled and does it display any warnings or errors?
My hunch would be you have a contact set to a language and linked to a user/author.
You should either set that contact to all languages or not link to a registered user/author if you want the contact set to a specific language.

1- No error in log files
2- It happens for every logged user and for any general access. Try it, http://www.rie.ca/en will fail, right there, without any other intervention whereas http://www.rie.ca/index.php will succeed.

Can you open and save the multilingual filter plugin?
Also make sure to clear cache. You may need to clear your cookies also.

Folks, please look again at the contacts assigned to a user/creator.
It may be that when a single contact was set to "all" languages, it would show as "Undefined". Make sure you save it again with language set to "All".
If you use one contact for the same user per content language, do not set any contact for the same user set to All languages.

Re: after update to 2.5.10 my multilanguage site stop workin
After Elin eye opening comment, it became pretty obvious what was
happening. The new filter assumes that either an article exists for a
specific language or it must be assigned to all languages. At first
look, this hypothesis seemed sound and safe but it probably doesn't
stand for most of us who are deploying multi-languages sites.
IMHO, most sites probably came from a single language implementation,
where either the users or the webmaster are(is) most fluent (french
canadian, in my case) and evolved to use other languages, TAKING INTO
ACCOUNT that the original language would be a default case when a
specific version of an article wasn't available or yet written in
another language. For example, for my site, it is completely in french,
and partially in other languages. When a specific content is not
available in the user language, the french version is displayed. After
all, this is a sound interpretation for "default language" in the
language manager.
So, I propose the following modification:
After this, I was able to keep 2.5.10 & 2.5.11 modifications and get all my data back online.

I solved it by making these changes. it is possible that the Joomla team does not issue an update for something so important?

You can solve the issue simply on a multilanguage site without this patch if a user/author has:murdok85 wrote:infograf768 wrote:Here are patches for 2.5.11 and 3.1.1 correcting the error in case a contact was forgotten for a said content language:

OR one contact ONLY set to ALL languages (Make sure it is really set to ALL)
OR one contact created and set FOR EACH content language
The patch does only correct an issue if you have not created a contact for each content language.
Anyhow, please comment in the tracker that the patch works for you in these conditions.
