Require user login to access anything

Post by nigelj » Mon Dec 30, 2019 2:02 pm

I want to protect all content on a site my requiring users to login to see anything. So when someone tries to access any page on the domain all they see are username/password login boxes, then when they login they go to the home page and can access the site as usual.

Is there an extension that does this? I can see that rsFirewall provides this protectionb for the backend, but not sure about the frontend site?

Thanks

Does making all of the content access Registered not achieve this for you?

Should be doable that way. Set the "start page" as user login. Then set everything else to registered access only

I just tried changing the main menu to registered and that stops access to anything and gives an error, I am guessing as it's the home page so that can't display. Also, the login form doesn't display in this situation.

I'll try creating a new home page with public access, just containing the login form, and make the rest registered only...see how that goes!

Well you can't have the main menu item as registered and set the "login" homepage as registered. Something has to be public so they can login to begin with. Set the main menu to public, set the main menu item (home) as a login form (public). Should work. Everything else in the main menu (the items) you should be able to set as registered.

Yep...I realised that as soon as I set the menu to registered!

I'm going to do the migration from 2.5.24 on localhost first, then when everything is running on 3.9.14 will sort this out.

Thanks & happy new year
