HELP! Locked out of site installing GA.

Post by desireer01 » Sun Oct 25, 2020 11:37 pm

I was installing google analytics as per the directions on this site (https://www.collectiveray.com/joomla-google-analytics) and as soon as I clicked "authorize application", I was locked out of the backend of the site. When I go to the website (http://saatchiruggallery.com/administrator) it takes me to a blank page. I don't understand what's going on but my client is going to murder me. Please help!

Recover with your backup then update Joomla

G'day, @desireer01, and welcome to the forum.

There's a world of difference between being "locked out" of the [backend] of a J! website and getting a blank page.

As far as installing a third-party extension to implement GA is concerned, some of these extensions are OK and some of them are, in my opinion, not worth a cent. Implementing GA for J! can be achieved without the need for extensions ... but not everyone is skilled enough to do these things from "first principles". If the third-party extension [that implements GA] is the cause of the problem then it makes sense to uninstall it and adopt a different approach.

It may be cold comfort to read something like "[restore your website] from a backup [and] then update J!" but, for someone who's building websites for other people you would be used to recovering your work from a backup copy. It's about a 10 minute job; updating J! is also a few minutes' work.

I note that, when I visited the backend of the affected website, I saw a J! 2.5 (?) login screen. If that is the case, "updating" J! is not really the option: you may be better advised to consider migrating the website from J! 2.5 to J! 3.9.22 (and that's not a few minute's work!). Before we can advise you further about any [unconfirmed] possible "blank screen" issues, it may be an idea to run the Forum Post Assistant report generator and post the information here.

That's why it's in the 2.5 forum.

Updating/migrating are often interchangeable words for many users. In any case, recovering with a back up and then bringing the site up to date.

Probably best done after you recover with your backup.
