Running out of options

Post by share24 » Fri Feb 26, 2016 3:04 pm

I have used Joomla for many years but I have yet to optimize the site and have instead just dealt with the low performance.

Something is going on and it has caused my site to be very, very slow at times (even when it's running well it isn't fast).

It's odd because the speed tests say otherwise:

Tested Load Time Page Size Requests Page Speed
February 26 09:59:36 4.75 s 1.3 MB 117 72
February 26 09:19:37 5.17 s 1.6 MB 117 73

June 8 22:12:03 1.39 s 2.5 MB 101 92
June 8 22:11:27 1.50 s 2.5 MB 101 92

The load times above appear to be OK but when you visit the site it's a different story. Sometimes it takes minutes for a page to load.

I have tried the various cache extensions and currently use GK Cache that came with my template.

I have paid people to review the site and they tried various extensions but even the "experts" couldn't figure out what was causing the slow performance.

I took out some of the bigger extensions and moved them to their own domains using the same template and those sites work OK, so I know it's not a template issue.

There appears to be a script or something that is holding up the page from processing.

The site I'm having a problem with is www.ohiovarsity.com.

The other sites are:

www.ohiovarsitybasketball.com
http://ohiovarsityspring.com/
http://football.ohiovarsity.com/
http://baseball.ohiovarsityspring.com/
http://softball.ohiovarsityspring.com/

Any ideas?

Your site has a very high server response time which means cache isn't really working. Actually, it could be that you are only caching static resources. Enable Debug in Global Configuration to find out what's slowing you down.

I turned on debugging.

I added a document with the Database queries since it included too many characters to post.

I also turned on max error reporting and saw this on my admin screen:

Strict Standards: Declaration of GKCacheControllerPage::store() should be compatible with JCacheController::store($data, $id, $group = NULL) in /home1/ohiovar3/public_html/plugins/system/gavickExtCache/gk_assets/gk.page.php on line 0

From what I understand through Gavick, those aren't issues to worry about.

What I did find are 27 of this same error:

Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in /home1/ohiovar3/public_html/libraries/joomla/factory.php on line 223

While PHP notices don't cause issues (when error reporting is turned off), they do mean that you are using outdated extensions.

For performance, try to enable Joomla's native caching.

I did that both in the past and again today and it never has made a difference.
