Adding alternate link attribute for multilingual sites

Post by cargoodrich » Tue Oct 08, 2013 11:06 am

I have a multilingual website built using Joomla! 2.5 which provides language pages for 10 different countries (five English speaking). The language module is successfully configured to show language pages as /en, /usa, /nz etc. within the URLs.

However the client is concerned about their website being penalised given how similar (and almost identical) the content is across the UK, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand sections in particular.

I've read up on on the advice here http://googlewebmastercentral.[URL banned]. ... ngual.html to help Google understand the purpose of this pages, and to minimise duplicate content penalties.

Throughout my Joomla site, I need to specify the alternate language pages for each page like so:

<link rel=”alternate” hreflang="en-nz" href="http://www.example.com/nz/" />
<link rel=”alternate” hreflang="en-au" href="http://www.example.com/au/" />
<link rel=”alternate” hreflang="en-us" href="http://www.example.com/usa/" />

However this could be very time consuming to do manually for all pages throughout. Is there an extension or module that can allow me to quickly and effectively integrate this approach for my language pages throughout the site?

Hi,

Have a look to this page http://multilingual.demojoomla.com/mult ... n-2-5.html
go to 1. Search Engines Optimization > B. A new parameter is available in the plugin "System - Language Filter" : 'Add alternate meta tags.'

Hi. I have a problem.

I have multilanguage site and for example:

mysite.com/pl/jakis-artykol/
mysite.com/en/some-article/

and when I am on mysite.com/pl/jakis-artykol/ then some module or component generate:
<link rel=”alternate” hreflang="en-EN" href="http://www.example.com/en/some-article/" />
and when I am on mysite.com/en/some-article/ then generate:
<link rel=”alternate” hreflang="pl-PL" href="http://www.example.com/pl/jakis-artykol/" />
etc.

It is possible to do something like that ?

Could you rephrase your question, unfortunately I can't identify the problem you wish to highlight.

Just in case you might find a solution here http://kiwik.net/en/joomla/3/the-book-f ... al-website
