Wrong language in system emails

Post by EvanGR » Wed Aug 20, 2014 11:51 am

Hello,

Working from a pre-made multilingual J2.5.20 site, we disabled all languages but one (Greek).
We disabled the language filter plugin. Menus items are set to "All" languages. Front-end is in Greek, back-end is in English (which is how we want it). Content language is set to Greek as default.

Now the problem:

When a new user registers, the confirmation e-mail is in English (we want it in Greek, the front-end language).

Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks

Please always upgrade to the latest Joomla version within the same series first before trying to solve errors with an older version. Possible bugs might have been solved in the meantime, and it's a waste of time trying to solve issues that are caused because of non-updated software...

The latest version in the 2.5 series is Joomla 2.5.24: http://www.joomla.org/download.html

If you create a new user in the back-end, the notification email will be in the language of the back-end.

If the front-end is in Greek and the registration happens on the front-end, then the notification email should be in Greek.

A workaround: create a Language Override for the English notification email in Greek.

Thanks. Unfortunately I cannot update from 2.5.20 just yet... because the whole system is tied to a template and has to be updated as a whole (I know... it sucks, not my idea).

It's weird because:

- translation files for Greek are installed just fine (I found the relevant strings that should appear in the email)

- the password reset email is in Greek (correct), but the user registration email is in English! (incorrect)
Makes it harder for me to troubleshoot

By the way I scanned through the changelogs from J2.5.21 to current 2.5.24, didn't see a mention on language fixes.

Thanks again.

UPDATE:

Duh! After some digging and hair-pulling.... I found out some translation strings were missing completely (not even commented out to let us know they were still pending).... thus the fallback to the English strings. Thanks again and sorry for the trouble.
