Custom Page Title - Articles
Hi,
In the META Options parameters I can change the META descr. and keywords. Why isn't there a field that let's me add a custom page title?
I can't find (a simple extension) where I can give each article a custom title.
Is there a way to change the titles? And where can I find this?
Thanks!
-Sander
EDIT: I meant 'page title' .. not meta title

Re: Custom Page Title - Articles
You have the option for a menu item under Page Display Options > Browser Page Title. For an article it will just show the article title.
In J2.5 under Global Config > Site > SEO Settings there is an option to include site name in page titles so you would then get "article title - site name" as your page title.
Alternativeley you could make the article name in the format you want the page title to be and then choose the option to hide the article title and then put in a different title within the article content - i don't like this approach though.

Re: Custom Page Title - Articles
garthjones is right. You can follow it. You should include site name before page title. People need to know content first. Only big brands such as Amazon put site name before the title.

Re: Custom Page Title - Articles
I've enabled including the site name in every page title. It shows the article title + site name now. This isn't exactely what I was looking for, but it is okay for now.
With Joomla 1.5 I had an extension wich made it possible to give every article a custom title.
Thanks for your help!

Re: Custom Page Title - Articles
There is no "set page title" for articles in the article manager, it is set from the menu item only.

Re: Custom Page Title - Articles
... of course you can
in ./templates/YOUTEMPLATE/html/com_content/article/default.php
$document= & JFactory::getDocument();
$author = $document->getMetaData('author');
if(!empty($author)){
$document->setTitle($author);
$document->setMetaData('author','');
}
it could be any field that you don't use

Yes, but that's via a layout override, I was referring to core joomla functionality.

If the page in question is linked via Menu (mine was "Home"), go to the "Page Display Options" and add your custom title to the "Browser Page Title"

And if it's not linked to via a menu item? How to set a specific browser/page title then?

Re: Custom Page Title - Articles
I've worked with this problem for about a year now. I think the best solution is to use "Easy frontend SEO" plugin.
It works like this: Install this free plugin. When you log in to the forum, you can click an object in the top to the right. After clicking you can insert a unique page title for the page you are looking at. I also has meta desciption etc.

Re: Custom Page Title - Articles
We are facing the same issue, our website is using Joomla. I too want an option to enable adding custom titles for each and every page like in wordpress. Please let me know how to do it.MarcusHT wrote:@pishro
You can see all the info here: http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... I7fQ%3D%3D
Also had someone used this plugin, I would love to know more information on how it works before installing it. Ours is a 700+ page website and any mistake could lead to really complicated issues.

Re: Custom Page Title - Articles
Sorry but I have to disagree with the comment 'put your site name before your title', Unless it is a page you don't want to have indexed, for example; 'Contact Us'!
I am sure your title contains your targeted keyword, or long tail keyword and if that is the case, then know your keyword should be located as early as possible in the title and not last.
If you want to include your site name in the Title, you can do so but I recommend position it at the end.
Because I want to have control of the title for SEO purpose, I always disable the option of including site name in page title. That way, I can write my title and if I still have enough room to add my site name, I insert it last.
Please note that Joomla is not WordPress. If you want to add the title to the page, you will need to use the Menu using the steps garthjones69 described above but here it is just in case:

- And under the 'Browser Page Title', enter your title
- You are good to go. (again, this is Joomla and not WordPress, thus they might have similar options but located in different areas)

Additional:
There is nothing wrong with installing a Joomla extension(and there are a lot of good ones in the JED) but I only recommend that you do so when it's necessary and I truly believe that, in this case, an extension is not needed. Note that the more extensions you install, the slower your site might become, and this is bad for your readers, and you!
So only install extensions when it is needed/necessary!

I agree with roma64 'putting your site name before your title' will hinder it from being indexed by Google
