SEF error on submenu item

Post by asemedo » Thu Apr 05, 2012 11:20 pm

Hi,

After a J2.5.4 update, whenever I create a new submenu item I got a 404 error and the SEF URL generated have the term "Joomla!%20Update" atached before the menu alias, as you can see in the following URL:
http://www.consulfogo.pt/home/formacao/ ... -conteudos

Whenever I create a new menu item at root level the SEF URL generated works fine!
All the menu items created before upgrade works fine.

Thanks in advance.

http://sitecheck.sucuri.net/results/htt ... sulfogo.pt shows your site as out of date. This could be because some of the update failed to write all the folders/files correctly ?

This may have something to do with http://www.consulfogo.pt is forwarded to http://www.consulfogo.pt/home ?
  • Use the the Joomla 2.5.4 package to overwrite the folders/files on the server. Upload all except the /installation folder.
  • Go to admin >>> extenstion manager >>> database tab ... 'Fix'
  • Download the 2.5.3 to 2.5.4 update package and install via the extension manager install.(like an extension).
  • Go to admin >>> extenstion manager >>> database tab ... 'Fix'(again).
Alternatively use the backup you made prior to the update to create a copy of the site on your PC. And try various update methods.

I'm a little confused! In the first point when you refer 2.5.4 you didn't mean 2.5.3?
Meanwhile I changed the redirection of http://www.consulfogo.pt to http://www.consulfogo.pt/home to an .htaccess file listed below! Is this the best way to do it?

Code: Select all

Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /

# Add trailing slash if path does not contain a period or end with a slash
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !(\.|/$)
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.consulfogo.pt/$1/ [R=301,L]

# Change http://yoursite.com to http://www.yoursite.com
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^consulfogo.pt$
RewriteRule ^/?(.*)$ http://www.consulfogo.pt/$1 [R=301,L]

# Exclude any subdirectories in the site root that should NOT be affected.
# include the Joomla subdir
# best not to use directories in your site root that also exist in joomla e.g. images
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/home
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/homeold
#or separate multiple directories with |
#RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/(dir1|dir2|dir3)

#if you have other domains (add-on domains) they should be added here to not affect
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^otherdomain.ca$

#Rewrites http://www.consulfogo.pt/ to http://www.consulfogo.pt/home
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ home/$1 [L]

I meant 2.5.4 because you partly updated so you need those files

Then installing the 2.5.3 to 2.5.4 should help set it straight

Have you done it yet ?

I´ve done all the steps suggested and the problem persists!!
With a previous backup (before upgrade) everything works fine! After update to 2.5.4 the problem returns!!!

I would appreciate any help because I don´t know what to do anymore and this is driving me crazy! :)

Thansk in advance

How did you create the backup ? Did you produce a jpa file with Akeeba ?

I made some progresses!!

I just installed the backup, prior to the update, in a linux local server, made the update via extension manager and all works well!!!! No more problems with the new menu items!

The only problem is that after this backup I made a lot a changes in the Docman categories and documents and if I restore this backup to my live site I'll loose all this work.

If you have any other idea to solve the problem without loose all that changes I'll be greatful.

Thanks in advance.

I downloaded the jpa file and installed locally and noticed a few things straight away
  • Your FPA report says you have mod rewrite on but the jpa file you gave me had it set off.
  • Your FPA report looks like you probably don't need ftp layer enabled but you had ftp layer enabled
  • Your .htaccess was not a Joomla htaccess. All it contained was the 'SuPHP_ConfigPath'
What I did was
  1. Turn the ftp layer off
  2. Delete the htaccess file(didn't bother replacing it but you should on your live site)
  3. Used the Jupdater in extension manager >>> update
Checked the database tab ... no errors
  4. Created a sub menu item
FULL SUCCESS the url created on the new sub menu item was OK

Recommendations
  • Download the jpa file and install on localhost, follwing steps 1 to 4 above. To confirm.
  • Make sure you have good copies of the backups then delete all the folders/files and drop all the Tables in the database. Then follow steps 1 to 4 above. Test by creating a sub menu item. If it works then rename htaccess.txt to .htaccess. After testing again then try mod rewrite.
If it still does not create the urls' correctly on the server then there is something wrong with your server settings.

Thanks for your help!
I apologize for not giving any feedback, but I've been very busy and have not had time to test the suggestions.

However by giving a look in PHPMyAdmin I remembered to remove the menu entry "Joomla! Update" of the administration menu and do not ask me why, but to my surprise, everything is working perfectly after that!!!

Possibly because the files do not match the database ? Your site is showing OK in http://sitecheck.sucuri.net/results/www.consulfogo.pt now

After Goggling for a while, I found the link bellow that I think it should be related with my problem
https://www.akeebabackup.com/documentat ... pdate.html

After deleting the Joomla! Update menu item, I ran the suggested command and now I have the Update menu item in the Administrator menu again and everything works fine!!!

I don't understand why, because I don't notice the Red error text (MySQL error 1062) when I upgraded, but deleting the menu entry and running the suggested command solved the problem!!!
