No <h1> tags in Joomla?
I realized that my page doesn't show <h1> tags!
How can I make my articles' titles a <h1> tag? Currently it is set to <h2>..
Or do you have different else to recommend?

Re: No <h1> tags in Joomla?
You can use template overrides and add <Hx> tags to the output of the components.

Re: No <h1> tags in Joomla?
Isn't as easy as by first impression I had, but ok, I ll look on it when I find time. For the time being, it seems that I m gonna hide the titles and insert them into my articles as h1..
Edit: I wonder though why Joomla creators didn't take care an easier way to have h1 tags..

Re: No <h1> tags in Joomla?
The h1 tag is used for the Page Title. I guess you have turned it off at the menu item.
There is not a big deal if the h1 tag is missing SEO wise.

Re: No <h1> tags in Joomla?
There is an excellent plug-in that solves this SEO failure in Joomla! this way a search engine would know that a page title is just that. Without an H1 tag for the title it's just another header among many (and why they are numbered 1,2,3 as in importance). I'm adding it here as I ran across this thread with just such an issue. The suggestion that it doesn't matter is wrong, at least regarding SEO.

Re: No <h1> tags in Joomla?
Personally long as you have some tags on the page that'l work, too many people read bad advice. Google has changed, they have so many indicators which pickup on what the page is about,
Incoming Links
Outgoing Links
Social Mentions
Titles
Meta Decriptions
Alt Picture Tags
and most of all the content it self.
Theres many more signals that Google uses to establish what the page is about so even without h tags its still possible to rank well, just look at wikipedia for example they hardly use any.

Re: No <h1> tags in Joomla?
h1 - Page Title
h2 - Article Title
There will be one h1 and repeated h2. That is the most desired set-up.
For a Single Article Layout, Add a Page Title and hide the Article Title.
To change it, an override of the layout in your template is required.

Some template do have a parameter to change it.

Your template must use overrides. See files in templates/<your template>/html/com_content

Re: No <h1> tags in Joomla?
As most SEO experts believe, H1 tag on a website article title is given more weight by search engines, particularly Google. I believe it too.
But Joomla does not tag the article title with H1. Instead they enclose it withPlease send your comments about this, it is For me important to know your opinion on this item.
thank you

Re: No <h1> tags in Joomla?
There are several ways. One way is using the template override, but this involves serious coding.
Edit the file /www/components/com_content/views/article/tmpl/default.php.
Modify that part by adding H1 tag.
Just a note, adding H1 is not the only technique in SEO. There are more to it.
Edit the file /www/components/com_content/views/article/tmpl/default.php.
Code: Select all
<?php if ($this->params->get('show_title')) : ?>
<td class="contentheading<?php echo $this->params->get( 'pageclass_sfx' ); ?>" width="100%">
<?php if ($this->params->get('link_titles') && $this->article->readmore_link != '') : ?>
<a href="/<?php echo $this->article->readmore_link; ?>" class="contentpagetitle<?php echo $this->params->get( 'pageclass_sfx' ); ?>">
<?php echo $this->escape($this->article->title); ?></a>
<?php else : ?>
<?php echo $this->escape($this->article->title); ?>
<?php endif; ?>
</td>
<?php endif; ?>
Code: Select all
<?php if ($this->params->get('show_title')) : ?>
<td class="contentheading<?php echo $this->params->get( 'pageclass_sfx' ); ?>" width="100%">
<h1><?php if ($this->params->get('link_titles') && $this->article->readmore_link != '') : ?>
<a href="/<?php echo $this->article->readmore_link; ?>" class="contentpagetitle<?php echo $this->params->get( 'pageclass_sfx' ); ?>">
<?php echo $this->escape($this->article->title); ?></a>
<?php else : ?>
<?php echo $this->escape($this->article->title); ?>
<?php endif; ?></h1>
</td>
<?php endif; ?>

Re: No <h1> tags in Joomla?
I did not found the code you suggested me in that file.
I found only:
Where I replaced the H2 with H1
And nothing happened.
I know that H1 is not the only one technique, but I have done many techniques and my website is still at 3rd page with ZERO H1 tags!!!
I found only:
Code: Select all
<?php if ($params->get('show_title')) : ?>
<h2>
<?php if ($params->get('link_titles') && !empty($this->item->readmore_link)) : ?>
<a href="<?php echo $this->item->readmore_link; ?>">
<?php echo $this->escape($this->item->title); ?></a>
<?php else : ?>
<?php echo $this->escape($this->item->title); ?>
<?php endif; ?>
</h2>
<?php endif; ?>
And nothing happened.
