Blog Pagination and SEO
How are people handling pagination withing joomla in terms of SEO?
I see two problems right off the top:
The first is duplicate content. If I hit the "1" button to go back to the start of the blog, it takes me to "/blog?limitstart=0" instead of just /blog.. I'm sure as the pages add up, you run into more of this stuff.
Second, as new pages are created where are they pulling meta data from? (example: domain.cam/blog?start=3) My blog isn't going to be huge, but it could be a real pain to go update the meta data for every blog page when a new article moves things around.
I guess I am more concered with the duplicate content issue. Is anyone using a disallow strategy in robots.txt this is working well? Maybe something like if url contains "limit" disallow? Is that even possible?
Thanks for any tips, I plan on getting this worked out prior to publishing anything.

Re: Blog Pagination and SEO
As you said, you need to do pagination to avoid duplicate page errors and check whether you have used canonical to your blog. Regarding meta data, joomla pulls meta description from home page meta description for empty meta description and uses article title as meta title generally. You need to use any extension like tag meta to arrange meta data customized way

If you're really worried about pagination penalizing you due to duplicate content you can also go in and add the official canonical tags to the appropriate pages. Just add rel="canonical" to the appropriate link or header file and that should help sort things out.

Re: Blog Pagination and SEO
I don't think there is an easy way to add canonical links in a Joomla blog since the links are created automatically and Joomla does not add them. Joomla 3.0 adds canonical links, but I have not tested this to see how it works in blogs and paged content.

Re: Blog Pagination and SEO
Will there be any difference in canonical function from Joomla websites to blogs really?

Use canonical tag to fix this problem. This tells search engines that this page content is duplicate of some other page content. Search engines like google consider this tag.

Please do not post your question in someones post? Best way to get attention for your own issue is to post your own post so you get attention the best way?vegas-kid wrote: How does one go about entering a tag to a joomla page that is generated dynamically?

Re: Blog Pagination and SEO
The correct way to do it, is to login to Google Webmaster Tools and define "start" as a pagination parameter.
