Joomla SEF and Virtuemart

Hello I come here because the Virtuemart forums are not helpful most of the time and it would appear that there is an issue with Joomla SEF and Virtuemart. I was hoping maybe someone here might have a solution

Joomla 2.5.9 Virtuemart 2.0.18a
When a user adds an item to the cart (as guest) then proceeds to check out, the click add billing and on that page put in their information. When they click "Register and Checkout" the page reloads but with an error and the user is now logged in but still at the billing information. It did not switch them back to the cart. I tried the site with zero mods, plugin and still had the issue. Then I disabled the Joomla SEF and it works no problems.
I have found on the virtuemart forum that this has been an issue but there was no real resolve or not one that is public I can find.3 days I have been looking and alas my search skills are not good enough it seems.

Does anyone here have any ideas? Thank you for looking at the post either way.
