Create your own eStore Site

Post by itspecialist » Mon Jan 17, 2011 9:00 am

I know it wasn't possible with 1.5 since the ACL is quite limited. But now in 1.6, ACL is now under our control. So my question is, Is there a component or a way for us to let our users to create their own eStore within your site? I've looked at Community Builder and they have an extension to provide downloadable products but I wanted more. Preferably something to change payment gateways other than Paypal.

This idea came to me when I looked at sites like cafepress.com or districtlines.com. Just wondering if I can do the same in Joomla 1.6.

Hmmm.. I was thinking if its possible to give Virtuemart privileges to a separate level of users. But then again, VM can't be divided amongst users. Ugh. I was hoping to get an idea or something to enable us to create this idea without an extension. But if worse comes to it, no choice I guess.

You can create store like articles in core joomla 1.6 but anyways you will need payments module, shoping cart ...

btw. why dont use extensions ? it is not argument use only core joomla, joomla is based on extensions
core joomla is usefull only for blog or something similar, portfolio site, company site, personal site, but if you want interact with users, sell something you need to use some extensions

hi itspecialist,
how can you set paypal/authorize.net or other payment system of each user?
i guess you can go with k2 and virtuemart using k2store.but still require customization for payment system.
but i am not so sure if stable version of k2 and virtuemart of joomla 1.6 released yet.

Hi free rebel and kurchania,

For payment purposes, I believe the users can figure that out. Paypal has those merchant services where users can put up the add to cart buttons or buy now buttons. Similar to that of MoneyBookers.

Of course, I'm not gonna use a Joomla site without extensions (that would be ridiculous). I'm just saying to use less extensions than too many. Like Mass Mail can be used with Joomla's tool instead of Aweber or Mailchimp. Sure, Aweber and Mailchimp may have better reports for better analysis with your members but sometimes I find it not necessary... Sometimes.

The closest to getting a Marketplace like site would be the Community Builder + CB Store/ CB Image Store. But their last change log(for CB Store and CB Image Store, I mean) isn't much to be relied upon as a commercial extension. And these were developed on 1.5.

So I was kinda hoping for a better idea. A better extension to have users create their shops within a Joomla site, sell each other or sell to others, and the admin of the site gets a small cut. I guess the bottomline is, I might have to try and make one. Just hoping somebody made one already and its somewhere deep inside JED and under a different name. (Like when I was looking for a crowd-funding component, the closest to one is that joomdonation. Its not it but its the closest.)

Yes .. now I understand you ... I prefer also use only few extension, really what its necessary only.
So you want to build somethinkg like community, which can selling-buying between each other.
With 1.6 its now harder, bc. not to many extension are ready ...
Maybe solution for you can be also implement some classified ad with some community extension

also one solution is auction extension

Yeah I've thought of that free-rebel. But not really the best display like for a user-generated shop (ad + community and the auction idea). I'll keep looking. Thanks though.

hi itspecialist,
well if i have to design such stuff i will prefer magento.i love joomla but at the end of the day its all about project requirement.
i create a project before in which i Manage multiple paypal for multiple stores in magento.we can control these store by our main site.
but still i prefer you create new extension in joomla1.6 which support such system and publish it in JED.

it always depend what you want, if somebody want only store - eshop, its better to use software for eshop, not joomla, if you want something more than only store, joomla with extensions can be good solution

hi free-rebel,
still my question remain same.
how can you set paypal/authorize.net or other payment system of each user?
how can you generate report for individual user?
how can you let your users to create their own eStore within your site on the basis of subscription?
joomla1.5 with extensions can be brilliant solution.
but i guess this is forum of joomla1.6.
