Multiple categories for one contact
Hey.
I'm having a very hard time believing that there is nothing created for Joomla 2.5 that opens up for the possibillity to assign multiple categories for each contact. I found an extension for Joomla 1.5 called "Grumpy contacts" but it seems that it hasn't been possible since. I am creating a site for a sports club. There are many volunteers working for the club. Several of them are having 5, 10 or even 15 different titles at once and I would hate to be forced to update the same contact that many times.
Can it really be right or am I missing something?

Re: Multiple categories for one contact
hey - i am trying to migrate over 100 contacts i created with grumpy contacts to joomla 2.5 and am looking for something that'll do what GC does. unfortunately GC is 1.5 only, as you know... i have exported the contacts to .csv file but would lose the multiple categories when importing to something other than GC...any ideas yet?

Move up to J3.1 and use the new tagging system.

Re: Multiple categories for one contact
I checked that option in Joomla 3.1.1 and did see the tags option. It was unclear to me how to use them. My goal is to set up a contact system like this one seen here:
Thanks for any insight or help!

Re: Multiple categories for one contact
A contact can be member of one category only, but have several tags. Recreate the categories as tags and put all contacts in one category or a few categories.

Re: Multiple categories for one contact
I have the same problem, also for a club where some volunteers have different roles in different committees (categories). So far the only solution I could think of is to make several identical contacts for the same person, in different categories. I see in some other parts of Joomla! that there is a possibility to assign several categories to one item, why not with contacts I wonder?

Re: Multiple categories for one contact
This is something I'm also very interested in.
For example, I have a charitable Fraternity website with a list of Members. The Executive changes every year. I'd like the Executive Members to appear in the General List of Members but would also like them to have their own Menu Item "Executive" assigned to them. I've tried using tags, but there's a problem with controlling the display.
When I assign a menu item to the "tagged" contacts, the contacts displayed don't show properly and I can't find out where to control the display for "tagged" contacts. This is all a bit hard to explain, but it would be great if one could apply multiple "categories" to contacts as easily as one can apply tags. Frankly the multiple categories would make more sense in my opinion.
