Diasble caching for a ceratain component

I have progressive caching enabled, it works as it should do but I need to turn off to cache VirtueMart as it stops working VirtueMart search, it always shows the same result as it takes a category from the Joomla cache.
How does caching work, it's workflow? I mean from a developer's point of view. Where could see it? I need to exclude VirtueMart from the Joomla caching.
