Joomla Website Password Recovery

Post by Djonz » Tue Aug 22, 2023 2:18 am

Hello, I'm Duncan a web developer.
Well, I came across a client who asked me to revamp their website which is more than 11 years old.

The problem is, he doesn't have contacts of the people who designed his site, nor does he remember any of the logins credentials. He forgot the admin email email, but he believes the site was created using Joomla as the software and hosting company too.

He believes the company that did his project was known an expose branding. I tried to look for them online but they seem to have varnished in thin air or ran out of service.

The emails of people he gave me who seem to have worked on the website project aren't in service anymore.

Kindly, any bit of help from this forum will be highly appreciated. Steps on how I can begin getting the login details and access the cpanel to begin the revamping will be of much importance.

Here is the domain names of the site.

Thanks.

Regards.

The answers to many questions about Joomla are easily discovered by using Google.

The answer to your question is to read https://docs.joomla.org/How_do_you_reco ... assword%3F

I can also tell you that the website you mentioned in your post is built with Joomla 2.5.4 (which was released in April 2012).

I hope that helps. :)

You are almost certainly going to need host access - someone has been paying the bills so must know who that is. If it is a cPanel account you will need login details for that. The site is using the bluestork admin template - so it is Joomla 3 rather than anything earlier.

Your site is hacked https://sitecheck.sucuri.net/results/www.starjump.co.ke

Once you regain admin access you can use Akeeba to copy and move the site https://docs.joomla.org/Backup_Basics_f ... _method.29

You then need to clean the site viewtopic.php?f=714&t=946026

If your client owns the domain name they can change Host. https://kenic.or.ke/contact-us/ can give you more info

Why has the link been removed if it is a joomla site?

Because the site has been hacked. Sometimes the mods will put spaces in but mostly they delete links to a hacked site.

yes, we break or redact so that you dont give "link points" or in the worst case someone visiting the link and then getting infected and blaming us for not having due diligance. [a blogging platform were sued for similar]
