"Error loading form file page" message when loading template

Good day everyone. I'm drinking from the fire hose in an attempt to learn Joomla and then get a full website up and online. I've setup two sandbox sites to learn from. One one, I've installed the sample content, and that page is working great. On the other, I have not installed the sample content. Everything else is the same. When I try to access the template through the Template Manager in Admin, I get a 500 - Error has occurred. Error loading form file page. This error occurs when I click on the name of any of the templates that were installed with the Joomla package. I have not done anything else (beyond remove the installation folder and set appropriate file system permissions). I have also uninstalled and reinstalled Joomla with not luck.

Any clues you can provide would be great.

I've tried to rename the existing joomla template atomic to atomics and got the 500 error.
Correcting the changes in templateDetails.xml file didn't help, still keep getting the 500 error.
Seems like the template folder name must be written somewhere else also.
HOW do we add our custom templates in 1.6????

Finally! I can see my template in Template manager.
To add your self-made template to joomla 1.6 Template Manager, do the following:
1. go to Extension Manager
2. click discover tab
3. Click Discover button on top right. Your template should be discovered.
4. Check it and click install.
Now, you can see your template in template manager.

I have this same problem.

I decided to update a site running Joomla 1.5 with a clean install of 1.6.

Downloaded the 1.6.1 stable .zip, extracted contents to directory and everything installed fine. Site runs 100% with no errors on default template.

The theme (it is 1.6 compatible) installed fine using the discover page. But when i click on the theme to edit its settings in extension manager, i get a "500 - Error has occurred. Error loading form file page."

Dosent matter how many times i re-install the theme it gives the same error.

Is there a solution to this as have just upgraded from 1.5.22 to 1.6.1 and am getting this on the default template in the upgraded installation. FYI I removed all plugins JFusion/JComments etc before the upgrade.

Having same problem.
Installed custom template thru FTP, discovery install seems to have gone fine, but clicking on the style in the template manager gives me this "500 - An error has occurred - Error loading form file" page.


Edit: Re-wrote my templateDetails.xml, reinstalled. Fixed.
