This forum is for issues with installing Joomla! 2.5 (All 1.6 and 1.7 releases have reached end of life and should be updated to 2.5.) on IIS webservers.

Install new Joomla 2.5 site on Win2008 64bit with IIS7

Post by bruno717 » Mon Apr 16, 2012 8:11 pm

I am installing a new web server and I want to start fresh with a new Joomla site. The server is Windows 2008 R2 64bit and is running IIS7 (with a few other websites). What is the best way to install the latest version of Joomla 2.5?

I would like to stick with IIS7 so everything is in the same place. Should I still use XAMPP to install the required components? If so, can I use it without installing Apache? Or should I just install PHP and MySQL by themselves? Any other required modules? I want to make sure things are still easily upgradeable.

Thanks.

Your best bet would be to install the Zend server which can work with either Apache or IIS. It is a more advanced interface than you get with XAMPP or any other stack for that matter, but once you get used to where everything is it does become much more logical.

Start with the Zend Server (CE) - community edition. http://www.zend.com/en/products/server-ce/ If you then want to go into a full production situation you can continue with the CE or if you require paid support, automatic upgrades, etc., you can easily upgrade to the fully fledged Zend Server http://www.zend.com/en/products/server/.

Your other alternative is really to just install MySQL and PHP as separate programs and then configure the IMP server together.

Also read http://docs.joomla.org/Iis which has details of the Web Platform Installer.

Hope this is all of some use.

Andy

PS Moving this topic to the IIS Installation forum

I followed your link and used the Web Platform installer at http://www.microsoft.com/web/joomla. It seemed to work pretty well. I had to fix a couple things because I set it up as a new website instead of as an application under the Default Web Site. Thanks for the help.
