Joomla 2.5 will not install, password error

Post by kleenex » Tue May 08, 2012 11:08 pm

I installed from a link on the Microsoft website. The prereq software installed fine. While installing the program itself, I get this error:

"This product did not install successfully. The database my_site_db could not be created. Login failed for user 'joomlauser'.

It seems that it is trying to connect to mySql but SQL Server was installed during the installation, so I'm not even sure where to set the password. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Ok so I clicked the option to install MySql instead. I go to install MySql and get the form all of the passwords are entered. I get this error:

The source is invalid
Cannot connect to the database
Access denied for user root@localhost (using password: YES)

Any ideas?

What password did you create during the installation process?
If none, what does the site state is the default password for their system?
Have you tried not entering a password (this the standard default for MySQL when it is installed)

Are you sure MSSQL was uninstalled before adding MySQL?
Are they both installed?

Have you tried creating the database before running the installation of Joomla?

Finally, did you follow the instructions on their web site as to how to complete the installation properly? This would seem to be where things are going wrong.

I un-installed both MySQL and MS SQL and reinstalled MySQL and was able to get through. I was going to reinstall MS SQL but ran out of hard drive space, will try again once I clear up some space and see what happens
Thanks for your assistance

You will be pleased to know you are not the first person to try this or to have issues I ran a Google on "installing mssql and mysql together" and got a lot of hits so if you haven't already tried this might be the way to go.

Most I looked at said it is possible but not if Exchange server is running - then MySQL must be separate. Otherwise provided the two DB servers are running on different ports there should not be an issue. Not looked any deeper into it than this though - I'll leave that to you!! ;)

To help others who might find themselves in similar situations in the future please provide details of what you did to resolve the issue. Is this with MSSQL or MySQL for example, plus the additional steps you took.
