Joomla 2.5.7 install hangs on step 4, db tables did install

Post by lmitro2012 » Fri Oct 05, 2012 9:05 pm

Hi,

I'm trying to install Joomla on a shared Windows server and it hangs on the last step. In phpMyAdmin, the tables are all showing, so the database connection is working. During the first install attempt, I tried to click Next, and it said the process was still going, so I left it for about an hour. Finally, clicked Previous to try and start again, it's still hanging on last step, and the Previous and Next buttons are all ghosted.

It mentions possible ownership problems, and a missing extension suhosin. I don't have access to the web admin control panel (GoDaddy, I think) so I can't just fiddle with things until something happens. Does anyone have an idea what permissions might be the problem, or if suhosin is absolutely required? I don't think we can install suhosin on the server.

My advice would be to dump your windows hosting asap!

:D

Thanks, after today, I needed that. Trust me, if it were my site, I would, but it's a client who has a bunch of sites already on it and I doubt that's a possibility.

Thanks and have a great weekend!

Nice one,

We all get these effed up situations from clients!

Try wamp first locally just to make sure the install runs ok. If it does, tell your client to stick it! :)

Good weekend

[Mod note: Moved from Installation Forum to IIS Installation Forum; ]
To help you, in the future, find the correct forum for your topic please read the Which forum to post your question that I have put together.

The problem is unclear as you have not followed the instructions for using the FPA properly.

The MySQL versions and collation character set are not visible because Joomla is not installed yet and / or there is no connection (the original problem) please therefore advise on these issues and complete the FPA in accordance with the instructions as this makes the whole picture clearer, there is also more information about PHP that should be present too as well as Joomla.

Clicking previous (as with the browser back button) at any point other than @ steps 1,2,3 unfortunately tends to screw things up as far as Joomla is concerned and I still do not know why it is even there!

Make sure the database is present, the user and password are correct and the user has full permissions, and that the collation character set is utf8-general-ci.

Check the database and delete any tables that may already have been created during the stalled attempt.

Sometimes it can be necessary to reupload the Joomla package files to the server (I often encounter this after running tests to break things locally) so it may be worth doing anyway. (I am assuming there is no need to advise that FTP File Type must be set to Binary and not to use Windows own archive manager but 7-zip instead? - oh buggar I have done it anyway ;))

Hi Andy!

Sorry for the dummy posting, this is the first time I've ever had a problem with Joomla (also the first IIS install). I dropped the tables from the first attempt, reuploaded the Joomla files, and went through the installation again (not using the Windows file manager, just ftp and the web browser). The forum assistant results are below, but it's important to note that even though it claims the database connection wasn't made, all the tables installed - screenshot attached. UTF8-general-cli collation set, credentials are correct - logs into phpMyAdmin - has full permissions, etc. Tables were installed.

Thanks for your help and have a great day!

Resolved: Joomla 2.5.7 install hangs on step 4

Post by lmitro2012 » Wed Oct 10, 2012 6:10 pm

Hi!

Just wanted to let everyone know that the problem appeared to be related to a folder ownership. On GoDaddy's IIS hosting, if you try to use a folder with ftp permissions, Joomla will not install. Luckily, there's a simple 1-click install application available in the control panel (just found out today) and it resets all the permissions correctly. No ftp allowed, but Joomla does install.

Thanks for your help and have a great day!

Laurel :)
