Joomla Fails to Update, Windows 2008 R2, IIS 7.5

Post by Enterfrize » Sat Apr 05, 2014 11:01 pm

Hello everyone,

I have an interesting problem. I know this has popped up with others before (and I didn't find a clear solution) - so here goes.

I have a website based on Joomla 2.5.14. I want to update it to 2.5.19. However, when I go through the update process, I get this error:

Could not open D:/SITE/www_root/MYWEBSITE/LICENSE.txt for writing

I'm running Windows 2008 R2, IIS 7.5.

I did a permissions check in Joomla, and everything comes up green and all the directories look correct.

I was able to temporarily solve with with other Joomla sites on the same server by temporarily adding an IUSR account with modify rights to the entire directory tree, but that seems unnecessary and hazardous. Of course, I removed this right after the update.

This is a new problem since I transferred to a new dedicated server, and I don't want it to be a consistent issue. Is there a check list or easy solution from a fellow IIS user?

I'm using PHP 5.4
Joomla 2.5.14
Windows 2008 R2 IIS 7.5

Thanks,

Mod. Note: Relocated the topic to the Installation on IIS web server forum.

You should probably run php as cgi/fcgi process.

You should probably run php as cgi/fcgi process.
It's already running as a FastCGI process.

BTW, I am running on an Apache/2 host. v2.5.14, can not get to 2.5.19. I get the exact same error as above.

Thanks,

DaveC

@SailOn
This is about IIS server, not Apache. Please post in the proper forum.

@Per

Happy to, however please note that I have the exact same problem on my site and this one sat for 4 years without any suggested fix.

Anyone find a fix for this?

I've already tried overwriting the entire install with a full version of Joomla minus the Install directory.

The only solution I could think of is to give the Joomla directory a full IUSR writing permission. Is that safe to do?

This problem I'm having is unique to Joomla. Is the main Joomla directory supposed to have IUSR writing permissions?
