Connection issues with MSSQL 2008

Postby brewhaus » Thu Sep 04, 2014 2:25 pm

I apologize in advance if this has been answered previously, but I have searched the forums for more than a day and not managed to find anything that solved our problem. We are trying to install Joomla 2.5.4 to run on MSSQL Server. Specs are as follows:

Joomla 2.5.4
MS Server 2008 R2
IIS 7.5
MSSQL 2008 Standard
PHP 5.4.31

I have uploaded the SQL extensions (v3.0) to the PHP/ext folder and referenced them at the bottom of the PHP configuration file. I know that this part was successful as we originally had only MySQL and MySQLi options, and we now have SQLSRV and SQLAZURE options in the DB type list. I have also tested the DB connection via an ODBC connection test, and that was successful (ie. the DB is available and accessible). However, when we try to set up Joomla we get the following error:

Could not connect to the database. Connector returned number: Unable to connect to the Database: JLIB_DATABASE_ERROR_CONNECT_SQLSRV

Can anyone help with this? I am sure that I am just overlooking something, but cannot seem to figure out what that is.
Thanks in advance! :)
Rick

Please always upgrade to the latest Joomla version within the same series first before trying to solve errors with an older version. Possible bugs might have been solved in the meantime, and it's a waste of time trying to solve issues that are caused because of non-updated software...

The latest version in the 2.5 series is Joomla 2.5.24 and in the 3.x series Joomla 3.3.3: http://www.joomla.org/download.html

My mistake- you are correct, and we are trying to install 2.5.24. The reason for using 2.5 instead of 3.3 is because we were told that Virtuemart is not necessarily compatible with 3.3, and so it was best to use 2.5.24. If that was incorrect then I am happy to try installing 3.3.3.

Until a couple of days ago I had not heard of Joomla (but, admittedly, I have not looked as we have functional software for our ecomm sites), but I really like the features that are available for it, so we would like to install and consider transitioning over. That install part is our problem.

I'm sorry, but I don't have much experience with hosting a website on Windows / IIS / MSSQL.

Does your SQL Server meet the requirements that are specified in http://www.joomla.org/technical-requirements.html ?

Yes, we meet all of the requirements listed for Joomla 2.5.24 and 3.3.3.

Finally got through the install (had to install SQL Server Express 2008 R2 and updated Native Client), but after the install, when you try to go to the website, there is just long error with respect to SQL (starts with Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 11.0][SQL Server]Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'LEFT'.SQL=SELECT * FROM ( SELECT a.id, a.title, a.alias, a.title_alias, a.introtext, a.language, a.checked_out, a.checked_out_time...). You can see the entire error at dev2.brewhaus.com.

There was an error noted when trying to remove the Installation folder, and Joomla will not allow us to log in using the credentials provided during setup- it says that those credentials do not have administrator privileges.

So, we are closer, but still having issues. Does anyone have any thoughts?
