Why access to more than one group?

Post by clickmym » Wed May 04, 2011 11:09 pm

I'm still trying to make sense of the fact that one user can be attached to multiple group (Registered and Super Admin) at the same time. if you have the super admin privilege, what is the use of the Registered privilege? i guess its just redundant unless some one can give me a better reason to use this feature. ???

A user can be part of many groups, but by using Super Admin as your example you have missed the point.

For example.
A guest/public user can see only what is available to the public.
By logging in other information is available.
If logged in an part of the admin group admin options are available.
If logged in and part of the "monkey" group, the usual logged in information is available but also the information on "monkeys".

I use groups as such:
Public can see stuff
Logged in users are clearly clients so they see information aimed at clients not the public (upselling/cross selling for example, as I know they already have a product). I will probably adapt this in the future, such as to be more specific with upselling/cross selling.
Specific clients can also see their own folder, such as with screen shots of their latest website. They are logged in as clients, but also as moneycorp ltd or whatever.
Now you see why they are in two groups, although I want them to see client information, such as my helpdesk facility and faqs, I don't want them to see razorsharpwit ltds documents only their own.
