Migrating Data

Post by piedequeso » Wed Feb 09, 2011 8:24 pm

What is the best option out there to migrate data from 1.5 to 1.6?

and also how may i transfer data from a joomla 1.5 website to a different root directory but with joomla 1.6?

Re: Migrating Data - using SP Upgrade component

.
SP Upgrade extension will "transfer data from a joomla 1.5 website to a different root directory but with joomla 1.6."
I have been testing it and it works quite well.

The way SP Upgrade works is:
- install Joomla 1.6 (without the sample data)
- enter Joomla 1.5 database information in configuration fields
- run migration

Content data in the J1.5 website database is migrated into the new J1.6 website database.
The J1.5 website remains untouched.

You can then work on the new J1.6 website independently to complete other migration tasks.

No upgrade extension will migrate 3rd-party extensions or components (currently).

That process is what I loosely referred to as "other migration tasks."
