Thank you Leo!

I was able to follow your initial instructions up to the last point shown below when I get that error message, copy failed. :
-->In any version of Joomla 1.7 go to Extension Manager
-->Here arrived go to Tab "Update"
-->In this Tab you will see a button (top right) colored 'green' stating "Purge Cache" Hit that button First since you might see otherwise a message 'no updates available'_The available updates in Joomla and Extensions will show. Make sure you do Joomla core (it will show Joomla 2.5.0 at this stage) first!.
--> Check the box in front of the Joomla 2.5.0 line and hit top right "upgrade"

The only difference is, I only get Joomla! 2.5.6 as the available update, not the 2.5.0

I dont kn ow which file to change the permission as all my folders and files have the 755 and 644 permissions. I do have enough disk space available for sure.

I would really appreciate all the help I can get.

Thank you so much.

I am on 1.7.0, whenever I purge cache, then search for updates, the update for Joomla! appears but when I try to update it gives me the error "Invalid Extension...". I have not seen this error in this thread yet (hopefully I didn't miss it). Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

EDIT: I decided to manually upgrade using this tutorial http://www.hostknox.com/tutorials/jooml ... -25/manual. It worked very well, other than 2 conflicting sql queries. Otherwise successfully upgraded from 1.7.0 to 2.5.6.

I use Joomla 1.7 and I want to upgrade to 2.5.

When I hit the purge button, no available update shows. It just sais, there is nothing to update.
Anybody know why?

Yes because 'Purge' purges all updates that might be in Joomla's cache. Therefore it will have a list that is empty. You need to click 'Find Updates' to find any updates.

I'm considering upgrading from version 1.7 to 2.5.7, and I have installed several 1.7 extensions / plugins on my site (www.radyrtennis.co.uk) over the past year since I set it up, I think Jevents, akeeba backup etc plus others, how will the upgrade from Joomla 1.7 to Joomla 2.5 be affected by this? Will the extensions get upgraded too, to their latest version, or will I just get a white screen ?

No they will not get updated. Some 3rd party Extensions notify of update in the Extension manager ... Update tab. But others you will need to download the latest version from the authors site(and follow the authors update instructions for them).

Before you update Joomla make sure you set the Default Template to a standard one.

ok, sounds like a good tip and thanks for such a swift response. I'm currently using a site template from 'A4 Joomla' and an Admin template of Blue Stork. Which templates would be best to set it to? I have deleted all the ones that were originally installed with Joomla, I presume I can reinstall these from somewhere?

They are in the Joomla full package ... just unzip one from the full package then zip it up and install.

Shouldn't these procedures be the same for an upgrade of 2.5.6 to 2.5.7?

While you might not have the errors or need to do other steps, it should
be the same basic steps. I see a lot of questions about updating 2.5.1,
2.5.6 on the board.

The upgrade seemed to work fine (all functionality that I have tested is fine)
I do see that the version is missing in the admin footer - this concerns me - if this is missing is there anything else missing?

I tried doing all the clear cache steps - maybe i missed one somewhere?

Doesn't show up on either default 2.5 admin templates. You have to go to Site/System Information
to see current versions.

If you install Akeeba Admin Tools, you'll see if you have current version right up
front in the Control Panel. It will tell you " Joomla! is up to date" or recommend
an update.

I have other 2.5.7 sites (not upgraded from 1.7) and it shows the version in the footer on all of the admin pages...on both default admin templates "bluestork" & "hathor"

On the site I upgraded from 1.7.5 there's no version in the footer - going to site\system info shows that the version is 2.5.7....

Read the guide again: Clear cache/detect/fix.

Check in module/admin if the version module is present and published

If the 'Joomla version' module is not present then add it ... and set it's position to footer.

i think everything else seems to work but my control panel looks like this

Would changing into different admin theme help?

edit: changed the theme to mission control by rocket themes and now seems to work fine... lost the dual language thing though but I was tempted to work on it anyway by installing Falang.

Hi,

I upgraded from 1.7.0 to 2.5, and also upgraded CB from 1.7 to 1.8.1 and Kunena from 1.7 to 2.5.. I was about to uninstall UDDEIM in order to upgrade to the latest version, but the system kept giving me the error message described in this thread.

Now, all of a sudden, I am unable log into back end as super user. The error I get is Fatal error: Call to undefined method JLanguage::getBackwardLang() in /hermes/waloraweb091/b2602/moo.yidam/IFREP/ifreplive/components/com_uddeim/uddeimlib15.php on line 174

Request help from joomla experts in resolving this issue, as I am unable to take any action on this site.

Thanks in advance.

"When your admin icons show vertical after the upgrade please do a full Purge Cache in your system panel, followed by a FULL cleansing of your browser cache. That will resolve the chaos in your admin panel layout.
"
I can not fix the Vertical Admin Icons. I can't find where to do the Full Purge (system panel) ?

It worked nicely though overall. The site upgraded from 1.7.0 to 2.5.7

I'm currently running J 1.7.5 and am about to upgrade to J 2.5.7.

I use a RocketTheme template compatible with J1.7 (Zephyr)

So before upgrading, do I need to update my RT template to the 2.5 compat. version first + other extensions ie. Kunena, Jomsocial etc to the latest version - or do I leave those extensions running as they are (or even disable them?) - and then update them all after the upgrade ?

I'm just trying to make sure that things are in order before upgrading to try to minimise any problems, so any advice would be greatly appreciated before I go ahead.

Thx all !
BB :)

UPDATE > I followed info from previous posts - enabled default template etc. and I disabled a number of 2.5 incompatible extensions before going ahead. Made a site backup using the correct version of Akeeba backup for J!1.7.5 first - then followed Leo's instructions and I have to say everything went really smoothly - not 1 error ! Wow.. I'm impressed to say the least. I was honestly expecting a nightmare scenario. Fixed the database and then proceeded to update all extensions including Kunena to v.2.0 and also my RT template. Everything is now running very nice in J!2.5.7.

Just to say many, many thanks to those who have contributed helpful info in this topic - I'm sure that my site would have been screwed up totally if I hadn't have found this ! :)

I have upgraded successfully from 1.7 to 2.5.7. But when I click on user manager I get the following 500 error

500 - An error has occurred.
Table 'clinitas_db.jos_user_notes' doesn't exist SQL=SELECT n.user_id, COUNT(n.id) As note_count FROM jos_user_notes AS n WHERE n.user_id IN (888,149,166,64,1126,991,265,173,1085,633,113,776,548,565,669,761,319,765,789,894) AND n.state >= 0 GROUP BY n.user_id

I have followed all of Leo's tips at the top of this thread (and all the others mentioned) but still get the following error after attempting to fix in the database in the extensions manager pane.

Database schema version (None) does not match CMS version (2.5.7).

Many thanks in advance!!
