Stuck at version 1.6.2

Hi people.
I am not much of a joomla expert - infact i have only made a few very basic websites in my life. Not knowing much about tech, i never thought about upgrading my joomla version. Since my website was hacked recently, i figured that now is the time to make an upgrade. All topics i can find on this subject just don't fit my joomla version 1.6.2.

Unfortunately, i can't find the update package that suits version 1.6.2.

Does anyone know a link to an upgrade package for version 1.6.2, and a beginners guide on upgrading would be much appreciated as well.

I dont remember much of the old 1.6.x

but dont you have an joomla update built in??
