I can only login from my computer

Post by gogirl » Fri Feb 01, 2013 10:44 pm

That's right. I have superuser access to 4 different Joomla installations on our test platforms.
Both my client and my buddy who has 30 years of system administration experience
have each on my request tried to access the same site with my username and password.
They did this several times and were denied access to the site. My buddy
even downloaded team viewer and tried to login remotely on my computer to convince himself
that this was really happening. He was immediately given access. The web host company doesn't know what to make of it. Its bizzarre.

As the web host company is using a virtual server and we can't use ssh on the current test server, the plan is to move as many installations as we can to a physical server in order to use some analytical tools.

Being new to joomla, I just have to ask if anyone has ever encountered this before? To be honest, I do not know if this is joomla related or even how to go about finding out. I would hate to have to do a reinstall of everything just to find out that the problem is still there. Despite my superuser status, one of the installations wont allow me to upload the xcloner module I use to backup the database and clone/backup the website. It will have to be completely abandoned. I succeeded with all other three installations and we eventually have to move these back to their web host. Any clues of where to go from here would be greatly appreciated. Any idea of how serious this is?
We all have different ip addresses? Could that mean anything ??? ?

Do you remember what you have installed on the site, im just thinking there maybe something restricting where the site can be logged in from?

Yes we have just installed a template and a realestate component. We now have a clean joomla installation in place on a different server. As the previous installation was installed and configured by another person who is no longer available, we are willing to start from scratch. Is there a better way of eliminating these restrictions if they exists other than crossing fingers and hoping it does not occur again? Geographically, it did not matter if the login attempt was from the same country or from another country. it's not a cookie problem and it seems that the site was configured ok. Which browser was used did not matter. What did matter was which url was used.

http://domain.com/site4/administrator/
http://www.site4.domain.com/administrator/

the www url did not work on this site even though the configurations are identical for all 4 sites (site1-4). We do not havelogin problems with site1-3.
This really leaves us scratching our heads but I would be happy for some advise as to how we can avoid this from happening again. We will also purchase a different real estate component as the menuitem responsible for displaying properties stopped doing so. According to our webhost providers the php file was being deleted but we cant see this to be true. It was no problem to repeat all these issues on the other physical server. But the challenge lies in isolating the error.
