User Groups and Access

Post by IDH-LA » Wed Oct 09, 2013 7:45 pm

I am creating a section of my site that will only be accessible by users within a certain user group. So once they login, they will then have access to certain content of the site.

The problem that I am running into is that when I try to login (using a dummy account I setup), I get this message:

You do not have access to the administrator section of this site.

This is not what I want. I don't want an admin access on the frontend of my site. Is there some other setting that handles this or that I would need to change in order for a normal user to be able to login?

Hopefully this is posted in the right area, thanks in advance.

I suggest you create a new group then assign articles or whatever application you need to show on that particular group.

You are logging into the frontend?

I can log in with a Super User login, but when I use a different login that has 'Registered' access only, then I get the 'you do not have permission...' message. I don't want people to have Super User access, but it seems to be the only way to get the site to do what I need it to. Is there another way?

I am asking if you are trying to login to the front or backend? That message is from the backend login failure.

This message/page redirect comes when I try to login to the front end as a registered user. Any admin functions are handled through the backend for my site, so the front end login needs to be for registered user or special user groups to view certain content.

That's not the message you get when denied to the frontend. This should be what a frontend group sees that doesn't have access.

Error
You cannot access the private section of this site.

Can you give a URL to the login page?

I have resolved this issue. It was a problem with some database tables and the solution was found here in case anyone else encounters it:
