Registered Users Only access to one section

Post by a1000w » Sun Oct 20, 2013 7:03 pm

I'm afraid I've boxed myself into a corner... old Joomla site allowed Registered Users only access to one section. Can't seem to get that to work properly in the new Joomla. (We've recreated the site, since the old one was hacked, fyi.)

Was trying to use the Login Module (made a copy named PUT Login Module).... which works fine and directs users into their own info.... but I want to be able to re-direct to the section called Helpful Forms on our site.... just can't seem to figure it out. (Duh!)

Help???!!!

Here's how to redirect users after login:
http://docs.joomla.org/How_do_you_redir ... l_login%3F

As to disallowing access to all but one page, here is the likely solution you need (no promises about your specific case, but this is what you want if I understand your needs correctly) --

1. Global Configuration: Change the "Default Access Level" setting to Special.
2. Find all the content you want NOT accessible to logged-in users, and set their Access Level to Special, too.
3. Find the content you DO want accessible to logged-in users, and set it to either Public (for all users including those not logged in) or Registered (for only those users who are logged in).

I should probably clarify. Special is basically admins. If you meant for most things to be viewable to public but then hidden once you login, that's a little different, and I forget how to do it off the top of my head :)

Here's more about access levels:

Guess I didn't make clear my problem... :-[
Public can access whole website, except for one page (Forms) which needs to be accessible to Members Only (or Registered Users). How do I accomplish that?

Set that menu item or content item's Access option to Registered.

Article is set to Registered, Category is set to registered.... do I need to do something with Permissions? Still not working properly. (Now it keeps going to the original Beez-20 "Fruit" section!) Maybe something I need to do in the Article Options area? I'm really befuddled!

Seems you may have gone overboard, setting Access: Registered on too many things. Even your homepage is telling me to log in or go away :)

You shouldn't need to use ACL or any additional options beyond Access (in various places) to get this basic functionality.

Looking over the previous messages here, I see no mention of Menu Entries... they, too, have an Access option. Based on Fruit Man's omnipresence, I'm wondering now if you've set the Home link to Access: Registered.
