Articles accessible despite security settings?

I currently experience a severe problem concerning a Joomla 2.5 website. The site contains some articles with information unregistered users should not be able to see, so the menu items', categories' and articles' permissions are set to "Registered". "Public" is selected as the default guests' group.

Now, if you login, go to the article and logout, everything works fine and you cannot view the article anymore: index.php/members/private-page

But if you open the article directly using the article's ID, then the permissions are somehow ignored and the page is displayed: index.php/12-members-category/37-private-article

How is this possible and how can I stop this from happening?

Did you clear your browser's cache before trying to access the article using the article ID to access the article?

Yes, I did that. Clearing the browser cache does not solve the issue, it is not a browser problem.
