Joomla Help Wanted - no response from contacts

Post by paulala » Sat Jul 27, 2019 2:48 pm

Ok I understand from looking at this page:

https://volunteers.joomla.org/help-wanted

that there is an ongoing requirement for individuals to step up and contribute. So I get to thinking, why not.

I look up the potential opportunities where I may be able to help and I see the names of two people to contact in order to move things forward. So I contact them, and I wait...... two months pass so I resend my emails and I wait.... two more months pass so I message them on twitter but nothing. Not even a response despite further activity from them on twitter. Zip.

So my question to anybody who is in a position to answer it is this. Does Joomla actually want/need help as per the page I linked above or is the request/requirement for help obsolete and no longer in effect in which case Id suggest taking the requests down?

I'm not in a position to provide a definitive answer and therefore, like most people, I can only speculate. In my experience in trying to obtain feedback from Joomla team members, the level of activity within those teams is variable. Some teams are active and some teams are not (to the point of wondering whether their activities exist at any level). While patience is a virtue, patience often goes unrewarded.

In this (free-ranging) discussion, I'm disappointed by the quantum of criticism—however warranted it may be—at those who volunteer to serve the community; I'm equally disappointed by the lacklustre responses to that criticism.

All of us have our talents and skill and it's nice to think that we may be able to offer our talents—selflessly and without expecting much reward—to others who may find them useful. However, it seems to me (and if my opinions appear to be sceptical or jaded it's only from a lifetime of experience) that teams, particularly volunteer-run committees, often take on lives of their own, losing sight of the purposes for which they exist.

There are activities that I'm content to remain involved with and there are some activities that I know I would be heading for strife if I were to venture there. Even among those activities that I'm content with, there are good days and there are bad days; some days are worse than others when you're on the receiving end of blunt, tactless, emotionally-fuelled criticism. You get the good and the bad or, in most cases, you're ignored.

To clarify my previous comments, I am not criticising the fair observations made by the OP.

Did you want to PM me or an admin the name of the person/team? did you try the next person on the team contact form? it may be that they are not getting your email

Dont give up Paulala Joomla is a nice good community and hopefully you get in contact with the right person(s). Hope your emails get to the right person though. Cheers!
Success in the long run Its not about the code its about the people and community that's make it!
Its not what you say its what you do that matters!

Apologies for awakening this issue. I see that this topic roughly corresponds to the last involvement by the OP in the J! forum. I don't know if we should infer anything from that apart from wondering if the original matter, a lack of a response to https://volunteers.joomla.org/help-wanted, was addressed and if someone—"in the fullness of time"—replied?

And, to repeat my earlier observation,

Sometimes our patience can be exhausted ...
