The forum is powered by phpBB
https://www.phpbb.com and not an extension. The forum and Joomla are bridged for the (user+) integration. We use for our clients the JFusion (jfusion.org) or the Alterbrains-bridge
http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... pbb-bridge

Thanks a lot Leo,
I still don't know anything about Jfusion and that other one, but I am going to search about it.
I have a website and am going to run a forum for it. I am not sure if I should use a seperate subdomain like joomla for it or use an extension like kunena within the website. because anyway they would be run on a same server.

Some people find it easier to run a forum natively within Joomla (e.g.
Chronoforums,
Easy Discuss,
CjForum,
Kunena). Some people prefer a standalone, non-Joomla forum like
phpBB (and use a forum bridge product). It depends on
a) what features you're looking for;
b) how much time you are prepared to invest in setting it up; and
c) how much money you are prepared to pay.
