J3.0 Bootstrap at frontend is totally horror!

Post by mad4joomla » Fri Sep 07, 2012 8:51 am

Hi to all,
I think many extension devs are adapting their extensions to J3.0 as me.
Today after Beta 1 I had to discover that J3.0 also includes Bootstrap at the frontend.
This means the default template includes it at the frontend.

I ask myself if somebody ever thought about this before implementing.

Certainly it is up to template developers to include Bootstrap in their templates.
Some of them will do others not.

I think it was a good descision to implement Bootstrap at the backend but frontend is no go.

E.g. all form and contact form extensions are screwed.
The aim of these extensions is to provide customized forms. But how to customize if Bootstrap is strictly converting form elements.
This doesn't apply just for form extensions but also to all other extensions which are using custom elements.

Even if there should be a solution to switch off Bootstrap at the frontend there will be other extensions and template widgets which are using it. If an extension turns it off all the other extension which are using it will break.

This will end in chaos.

Why not implenting a class like "nobs" or "donttouch" which prevents bootstrap converting elements?

Thank you for your feedback!

Maybe you could add this to the bugtracker & contribute a patch to solve this problem?

As you probably know, Joomla is run by volunteers only.
The Joomla project depends on contributions from community members like you, for problems like you just described...
Thanks in advance!

@brian
Probably yes, I thought first posting this at development but I thought the "philosphical approach" and the reach of extension devs would be better in this category.
At least it is about something with which all extensions devs have to fight.

Feel free to move it if this is in the wrong category.

There are many advantages to finally having a unified UI in Joomla, particularly for 3rd party developers. I for one am very happy with the change.
