Hi,

thanks to both Matts for all of their efforts!

There were plans to implement enhanced listings into the JED. Is this still something that will be considered in the future?

Regards,
Markus

Personally I'm hoping for an improved sorting algorithm in the JED, but I think it's waaayyy too early to be asking Matt et-al these kind of questions. Give them time to settle into the new roles before burying them under new feature requests :D

Hi Vimes,

yes I know about your concerns, read about them. Thinking about it, I came to the conclusion that +1 or likes would work best. Like the JED turns all 5-star votes into +1's, dropping everything below. That would lead to that mature extensions like yours can't get overrun by young extensions. At the same time, the JED would allow voting-less reviews, but NOT votes without reviews.

If you think about it, it would be easier to implement, a modern approach, less discriminatory and fair for everybody.

[EDIT] ...and probably a 2-column layout rather than a 1-column list, there are 10k+ extensions already (like Google's PlayStore).

Regards,
Markus

You may be right, it's certainly something that could be trialled.

Hello!

Thanks @all for the kind words.

I've been gathering up the troops the past two weeks to get a 2.5 migration underway. The migration is happening on GitHub and Andy has started to kick-off that project. At some point down the road some areas will be opened up so anyone can contribute.

For quite a few reasons we need to get off 1.5 before we start adding/changing things.

After the migration we will be looking at the extension used for listings. Either sticking with what we have and giving it a good overhaul from the bottom up or something completely custom. In the mean time Daniel has been working on a workflow to give us a good starting point.

Enhanced listings will come eventually. As will an overhaul of the review system, reporting and ticket system improvements and a hard look at usability and categorization.

Just keep an eye out for blog posts, which will be made when we get a project to a point that it's ready to be shared for feedback.

Hi natselection,

thank you for letting us know about your plans, really appreciate it.

A couple of years ago, I offered to implement a JED backend extension (search, install, suggestions based on installed extensions, etc.).

Now that Joomla has the infrastructure for updating single extensions, it could be even more handy for the users.

If we would implement a prototype, would you find the time to have a look at it? We would donate this extension to the joomla project because we think something like this is overdue in joomla.

Regards,
Markus
