Re: Tag - You're It
Thanks to Elin Waring for her initiative and work to get the Tags feature to this point, and hopefully included in the production version of Joomla 3.1! I hope we will get lots of help to test Tags along with all the other features that are in Joomla 3.1 beta.

Re: Tag - You're It
We would first need this feature to be corrected as it is totally broken in multilang.

Re: Tag - You're It
So I ran that through Google Translate and it said:
"It doesn't work exactly the way I thought it would on multilingual sites, but then again I didn't test it before now. It's great that we have beta to work out small problems and provide documentation."

Tags - It's' Good, but no for Jommla "Articles"!
We need Multi Category for Joomla "Articles", because so many sites now use standart Joomla categories. Use new "Tags" = crash for SEO for old sites and crash in Google search!
We need in Multi Category like in Yoo Zoo. I find one component - http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... tion/17400 We need in this features from this component in standart Joomla release
P.S. Sorry for my english. I'm do sites on Joomla in 5 year since Joomla 1.5, but i'm not coder

Sounds like a great feature. I'm willing to test. I have exposure to component development.

Re: Tag - You're It
Excellent addition,
But I hate having to add them using the Category manager, and only "selecting" when creating or editing an Article.
Would love to be able to save the tag "organically" similar to wordpress when creating an article.
Anyhow, well done!

Hi 72dpi,
That's currently being implemented as well via AJAX:
http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla ... m_id=30264
and will likely be available for 3.1 assuming all goes well
Kind regards,
Nick

Re: Tag - You're It
I have been actually searching for this all day, and looked at a bunch of different extensions that convert meta keywords into tags. But I have not tried any.
Glad to see that it's something built into the core now. However, now I just need a few extensions to make things work. Here's my wishlist:
1. A menu module that displays all tags and nested tags in a tree like format with menus and sub menus.
2. A similar menu module that would display a selected tag and it's nested children.
3. And basically make tags function the same way as categories so when creating a menu item we can select "Tags" and then select the tag, which would link to a page with all it's children tags and content. Similar to category pages displaying sub-categories and articles.
Or have I gone totally mad???

Re: Tag - You're It
Tags is a nice feature. Having to manually create tags in the tags component before using them - not so nice.

@Jack,
Download the latest test version (https://github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/archive/master.zip) and see if you got what you wished for :P
@Al,
You don't have to. Tags can be dynamically created (using AJAX) from any component that integrates tags now. For example, if you're creating an article, just type a new tag in the article tag area and it automatically creates the tag in the Tag component.

Re: Tag - You're It
This is awesome! Been waiting years for this. I am so happy to see Joomla constantly getting better and better. Thanks Nick for your answers and thanks devs for your hard work!
Now if only the next release of Joomla had a frontend delete function for articles as well a feature article function.

Re: Tag - You're It
I am thrilled about the tags - this is a Drupal-like feature that I have admired in Drupal. But I don't want to go down that road. Joomla 2.5 made me happy and now I am so excited with all I see in Joomla 3 - working on our first 3 site right now!

Re: Tag - You're It
It's working fine on my end. However I am curious why an id is inserted into the url of a tag? I don't see how this is necessary. Unlike articles "duplicates" are okay in the sense that it should and will link to the same tag. But with articles they are obviously unique even if both article titles are "Joomla" and "Joomla".

Re: Tag - You're It
Is the input field at the article editor the only way to assing tags to an article? I wonder, how to get tags into custom components? I don't see any admin module or plugins available for this. Is there a documentation available for this component?

Re: Tag - You're It
I have been really wanting tags. I had used K2 in the past but it was more trouble than it was worth.
I can see how I as an administrator can tag an article but how do my registered users tag their articles? Without this tagging is useless. Am I just missing something?
Thanks for all the hard work on Joomla.
Stuart

Very nice. I see the menu item type there for tags. It's like Christmas in April.
Lovely. Thanks.

Re: Tag - You're It
I know it's a little early for this, but is there a way I can filter extensions in the JED to see if there are any specific to native Joomla tagging?
I'm looking for a menu module that will automatically create a menu item for each tag created, which would link to a list page of the content tagged with that tag. I know there is an extension that does that for Categories, sub-categories, and articles. But I need it for tags, sub-tags, and articles.

It's for the same reason as the articles, but you make a good point. Please post in the JCMS mailinglist with that question: http://groups.google.com/group/joomla-dev-cmsJosh Lewis wrote:It's working fine on my end. Try creating a menu item for front-end article submission in the normal way. The tag field should hopefully be there.stuartmarsden wrote:I have been really wanting tags. I had used K2 in the past but it was more trouble than it was worth.

No, there isn't. If you'd like that feature on the JED, please ask the JED Team at:jack_fu wrote:I know it's a little early for this, but is there a way I can filter extensions in the JED to see if there are any specific to native Joomla tagging?

Re: Tag - You're It
Nick, Thanks for responding. I already have that menu item in my user menu for logged in users. It does not include anything for tags though. I tried creating a new one to see if that helps but it is just the same. I am quite new to Joomla so may be missing your point. Do you mean the menu item described here: http://docs.joomla.org/Help31:Menus_Men ... cle_CreateNick Savov wrote: Try creating a menu item for front-end article submission in the normal way. As you can even see in the screenshots in that doc there is no tag options. Guess tagging is new but if it is only accessible to admin users it is not much use in my set up.
Thanks,
Stuart

Re: Tag - You're It
Would there be any side effect (especially database speed) if we use too many tags in one article? And how about if we have hundreds of tags in the whole site, would that make the site slow down?
From the tag list page eg. /component/tags/tag/11-test, can we have option to set intro article text together with images just like in K2?
Regards,
Joseph

Re: Tag - You're It
No I don't see any reason having a lot of tags would be particularly bad, although it would be cool for someone to profile it.
YOu could override the JLayout for tag display and have it include images, description or anything else.
