Organizing people across the world without carrot or stick is an exciting project.

The article is all about the process of changing the organizational structure. Consider to invite the comments of Joomla Forum members on the organizational issues. If you want to mobilize more input from Joomla users; this could be an example.

Empowering more people to be involved
Distributing decision making effectively
Encouraging active volunteers to continue contributing
Increase transparency and communication between teams
Placing trust in individuals and teams
Defining a more understandable structure with defined positions and workflows

these goals are surely shareable, and will help the growth of Joomla imo

i would focus much more on how
increasing the transparency

Please, don’t forget to involve the community.

Ideally, I will see the development of a system of public request that will receive a vote of importance for the project by the public.

Request in the top 10 will be part of a discussion between the organization and public to view the feasibility and how it will impact the project until some kind of consensus is reach and put in queue for implementation or else.

Major contributors of Joomla have been very clear view on this crap:

http://phproberto.com/en/blog/28-though ... e-proposal
https://medium.com/@mbabker/joomla-rest ... 92b1295694

Only gives full power to OSM, no transparency, manipulations and hidden agenda's as indicated. Suppose to be voted on for approval at the Joomla World Conference in 2 weeks without consultations with the community.

This forum post is considered now suddenly as such medium when decision regarding this have been made without this community op purpose. This new structure was original tagged as "Do not share" says it all!

However what people appear to be missing is that without the end user Joomla will be just a 'Toy' for theoretical devs to experiment with ... and the brand name of Joomla will become valueless.

The constant updates in the update cycle is pushing away the professional website developers. Soon the only end users left will be people like me who have hobby sites and inexperienced users who are trying to create a home business. Hobbyists like myself will not give our free time helping to debug faulty code for software that is of no practical value ... and the inexperienced user will not want to bother learning how to.

Without end users bug testers the Joomla cms will be of little value to the theoretical devs or those who have control over the Joomla brand. 'Oh' say some 'The Joomla brand will be known for more that cms because it will be a Framework'. But without a community there will be nobody to debug the faulty code.

I have said before and will say again ... the Joomla community can easily find another project to join. But the developers will have trouble building up a new community.

As for a working cms ... there are several out there that are flexible enough for website developers and have the ease of use their customers need. The practical devs who make a business out of providing Joomla support and coding extensions can soon 'turn their hand' to doing the same for other software.

In short the voice of the community needs to be listened to or Joomla will be of no practical value and the Joomla brand will be worthless.

I would say different. I agree with the Windows dressing but the very fact is that this entire scenario was planned by a very small group of people who happen to be commercial developers and members of OSM who's only interest is to enhance their business income based on control for their own companies and not Joomla!.

With this new proposal they kill any form of community input and make sure that we have a corporate board structure where they pull strings.......

If you look at all working groups of Joomla and it's members and who these working group members work for it is obvious who are pulling these strings.

And yes a very good, powerful and slim CMS is Pagekit by Yootheme, something we are implementing now on several development sites on request by clients and we are amazed by it's versatility! http://www.pagekit.com/features

The current structure definitely be improved.
The new structure is proposed, is more suited to what the market demands of a product like Joomla that has reached a number so large users.
Not sustainable a product for millions of users with three dozen people holding the proyect horizontally. It is a model that can run on a relation of 1 to... How much? 1 to 4 or 5 ... but not from 1 to several hundred thousand.
So I think a structure like the one proposed for Joomla can be better than the current, although can be worse for those who now form the horizontal base.

The weight of the work depends on only of the 0.0000001% of the community.
How can we argue that the change is bad because it hurts the community?
How many members of the organs of government will continue working on the project when they lose (definitely) his position as leader?
How many have done so far?
I know some, but most returned to their own projects (many based on Joomla) and have not been contributing anything about for to do grow to Joomla Project. Don't can you say twenty names of those who were 8 or 9 years ago? The rotation of people and the loss of knowledge that entails is a wound that can not be kept open. And this new structure perhaps we help about this.

But I miss a point that is essential for me. There is a Latin saying: No is possible the authority if not exist the liability.
The Joomla Leaders teams have no responsibility under the "shield" that they are voluntaries. In the last years I have seen leaders who "attack" whatever part of project they do not like, they do not meet deadlines, their areas liability do not get the minimum performance that anyone would demand someone called "leader".

Anyone with AUTHORITY should have to fulfill their RESPONSIBILITY, or would have to be replaced.

The two models, the old and the new, defined how to change the OSM member, from the bases. But what about the other way? What happens when the current leader (community, program, or other) with government responsibilities in the project does not meet deadlines, or publicly attacks the project invoking the freedom of expression? Have we all gone mad? Do you think that only the members of OSM should have responsibility ? The rest can plead that they are volunteers and under the definition"fuzzy" of community not have to be responsible for anything?
Does anyone can imagine to one volunteer of doctors without borders, leaving unattended the hospital because he has to attend to a customer of your business? To be part of the volunteering involves taking responsibility.
That is in my opinion the most important problem of the structure of Joomla. And I hope it will be addressed with this change.

Note: I beg your pardon my bad English. But I think it's important that we help all we can to this process.

I have reviewed the New Organizational Structure doc at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1U_rnfymS0LJdd67SUqCqi07oetDWK_DJj8rsbIBKbEg/edit#heading=h.rbok5kdf8evi

As somebody who has been very critical and untrusting of OSM governance in the past, (in particular that key contributors have been precluded from having a vote for OSM Directors - and by extension in the affairs of OSM), I want to thank the past board and working groups for addressing these matters.

It's clear that a great deal of thought, effort and goodwill towards the Joomla! Project and community at large went into this document and initiative.

My feeling is that these initiatives will prove to have been pivotal in the future viability of the Joomla Project - the 'glue' that will ultimately hold the project and community together.

Thanks to all who contributed and looking forward to seeing these initiatives implemented!!!

Thanks Niv for your hard work here.

Would it be possible to have this document on the web with an organisational chart too? with this component http://www.vj-tools.com/vj-orgchart.html?
Success in the long run Its not about the code its about the people and community that's make it!
Its not what you say its what you do that matters!
