Remove Gender From Profile (Kunena)

Post by pambesteder » Thu Oct 01, 2020 10:44 pm

Joomla 3.9.21

On the profile page, there's a place to show gender.

I don't want that, how do I remove it????

Thanks
Pam

Reason: Added "Kunena" to the title.

There is a way to turn on / turn off extra fields:

Go to Plugins Manager.

[edit - correction ] Search for "user - profile"

Click to open the plugin screen. It lists all the extra fields you can add.

However "Gender" is not amongst them (at least for my site).

Possibility 1: a third party component is asking for "Gender" (e.g. Jomsocial, or other social network component may have its own registration component, that ties in with the over all user system, but also has additional fields not found in the core joomla registration).

Possibility 2: a custom field "Gender" has been created at some point. You can remove the custom fields easily from User options. (in Administrator back-end, go to main menu: Users > Fields. See if there's a "Gender" field there.)

A screenshot would be useful to show us what you're seeing.

That field is not a core of Joomla's profile data.

If you just need the text changed, you can use the language override to achieve that. If you want the entire field removed, that will require a template override of the specific HTML view file for Kunena. Have you inquired at the Kunena support forum? There may even be a custom field configuration in the Kunena settings. Check it to see.

Kunena support is not very good. I've searched and searched, but the post answers are years old. It's so frustrating. Thank you, though, for your help. I do have another question, if you don't mind me asking. I'm pretty up to date on using the custom.css file to make changes. But no matter how many changes I make any part of the Kunena template in my joomla custom.css file, it doesn't stick. Would you know why that would be? No font color changes, no background changes, nothing sticks.

I would guess the Gender field connects back to the user profile because Kunena hooks into that user component.

I don't know if the same is relevant to your Kunena forum template, but in general the custom css file is called user.css, not custom.css.

For adding custom css to your normal front-end template (such as Protostar) you'd following this process: https://docs.joomla.org/J3.x:Adding_a_c ... _Protostar.

I would assume something similar for Kunena's forum template would be done, but can't be sure if it actually uses a file called custom.css or user.css.

I'm not using protostar as my template, but Gantry 5. I've used custom.css for other changes and it has been working. I'll make a user.css and see what happens! Thanks

You may have a cache system in action so changes to any client side document are not using the updated files. Go to System>Clear Cahce and dump all then check your site. There is also the possibility that your browser has cached the files and reading from the local drive. Try clearing the cache or check with a different browser.

Oh, okay. I will try it. So much to learn, so little time!
