Very High CPU Secs

Hi, I am new here and hope I can get some help!

I have taken on the content maintenance of a Joomla website for our local U3A.
Our WebHost is advising at around the 20th of each month that we have reached 80% CPU Secs.

Looking at the Error Logs I find many of these errors:-
2022-01-20 00:11:14 UTC [apache][:warn] [pid 85356] [client 120.148.193.187:55530] Timeout waiting for output from CGI script /home/u638-58z6vxxvokjf/www/u3asouthpen.org.au/public_html/index.php

Hoping to find out what is causing the timeout s which I guess is the cause of the problem.

I think you could find more clues to the problem by

- turning on error reporting
- turning on debug.

Report back to this forum thread, what the PHP errors say (if any) or what the Debug stack trace may more specifically indicate as the problem script.

As your host is reporting that it is happening at the same time each month I would check to see if you have any automated tasks that take place. This may be an automatic backup or a cron job on your hosting panel.

As I see you have acy mailing installed are you perhaps sending a mail on the 20th?

In Debug reports at the foot of each page, it appears Database Queries > Call Stack is what I am looking for?

However when I look at explain, some show what I presume is an error in red, eg NO INDEX KEY COULD BE USED.
Am I heading in the right direction?

Thanking you for taking an interest.
I don't think it is a single occurrence causing the problem but a continual buildup. It does not appear that the forum allows the posting of images or I would show the SiteGround chart. It shows CPU Secs fluctuating in the last 24 hrs from 12 points over 10,000 secs/hr including one at 18,500 secs/hr down to 5 points at 0 secs/hr, probably averaging 4-5,000 secs/hr where we are on a medium plan allowing 2,000 secs/hr. During the time from Jan 01 to today our site has had an average of 100 - 150 visitors per day.

The error log points to Timeouts on every error:-

The two lines mentioned in the Debug report are:-

and

Line 134 is:- $mainContentWidth = 12 - ($asideLeftWidth + $asideRightWidth);
Line 166 is:- $privacy_link_url = JRoute::_($privacyMenuLink->link.'&Itemid='.$privacyMenuLink->id);

Doing a little more digging, for the last 24 Hours we have averaged 77 program executions/hr (allowed 2000/hr so 3.9%) and 3736 CPU Secs/hr (allowed 2000/hr so 187%)

Something bad is going on and I strongly suspect the Timeouts are the cause, but what causes them?
