Strange behavior of J3 redirect component

Hello,

We are actually encountering problems with the redirect component on several of our J3 customers websites.

Either source url or destination url get parameters added without any user edition and these parameters come back after being cleaned which leads to number of redirections not working anymore.

Until now I did not find what could be causing such a strange behavior and the parameters added did not help me spot the culprit as they seem quite random (feed=, pid= component=, layout=, view=, controller=, etc.) and are sometimes defined sometimes empty.

Did any of you encounter a similar problem or have any idea about what's causing it ?

Are you redirecting to menu items or non menu items?

Mostly menu items but the problem occurs with both menu items and non menu items.

Thanks for your answer. I tried but only managed to have the following message : As a security measure, this copy of FPA has been self-deleted due to the time it has been present on the server.
You will need to upload another copy of FPA to continue.

I don't know why as it's been uploaded only a few second before I try to access it. Any idea what could be causing that ?

I also thought about the issue on my side and what I could observe got me thinking that the problem could come from the "Collect url" functionality of the plugin, url collected also tending to have parameters on the concerned websites.

I am not sure the 404 that triggered the collection really happened on the full url with all it's parameters (maybe a bot playing a silly game) or if it happened on the normal url and the parameters were added by the redirect component as I could not manage to reproduce it in any way, but what's sure is that most of the collected urls are showing parameters in a way that does not sound realistic.

Could it be possible that the parameters added to the active redirect would also be the result of a missed collection of it with parameters that would update the DB entry instead of creating a new one ?

Not sure that could explain the fact that parameters are added sometimes to the source url and sometimes to the destination url but I did not find any other explanation anyway.

Really hope I will find what's going wrong because it's pretty annoying

Could it be that you are using an outdated version like 3.10.6 and not the latest 3.10.8?

No, the website I did test on is running on 3.10.8.

The reason for the self destruction is that you preserve the date of the file with the upload instead of setting current time.

While searching for an hint or a solution to this, I stumbled on a J4 issue that seems very similar : https://github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/issues/36862

Could there be the same problem in J3 ?

Comment on that issue saying you are experiencing the same problem and ask them to reopen it. See if the devs agree?

Before commenting I tried to read through the thread more carefully and it seems that it was also corrected in 3.10.7 : https://github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/pull/36951

That said it was merged on 20th feb, branch was deleted 3months ago and patch was pushed to nibra/joomla-cms. Not sure how github works so don't know if it was merged into the main Joomla branch or not. That is a question that you will need to ask the devs.
