Slow loading of images

I have an online diary using Joomla 3.9.x so in the image directory I have more than 2,500 files. It happens to me that when I want to upload and insert a new image it takes a long time approximately 3 minutes. What is happening? How could I fix it? The rest of the website is doing well and the loading of the froted is fast.

Why haven't you updated to 3.10.12?

Because the template I use doesn't support a higher version.
The solution I'm trying is to organize the image files into monthly folders. That is, the images of the news that I upload in the month of December place them inside a "December" directory so the rais directory remains "empty" and loads a little faster the upload and insertion of the files.
