Adding custom date and sort by expiry date

Hello.
I have been reading some suggestions like :

in order to understand how can I chose one perticulal category of articles showing.
So I created meny that is basicly listing articles in that categories.
There you can show and sort by many options but not by expiry date.
What I need is additional date value which will have no other function beside showing the date that I enter and sorting that perticular category listing by that date showing at the same time expiry date of the article.

I dont want other categories to be ordered by this.

What was suggested in the link I provided was for the 2.5 so am not sure that will work on brand new 3.2 that I upgraded few days ago and its only dealing with expiry date not additional date....

Thanks regarding expiry date. How about additional date ?
