Can you also double check what do you have in content-Articles-Options-Editing Layout-Show Publishing Options and Show Article Options? Also what happens if you disable JFBConnect?

Both options are set to "Show".

Disabled JFB and used Joomla login. No help.

As abruptly as this problem started, this morning everything is working. Go figure. No extension updates or anything. I just tried it and am consistently getting in. Same systems, same user names, same browsers.

I may need to have lunch at an establishment that serves!

I have the same problem, and still there, i cant edit in frontend with administrator account.
so... do you know how to solve it yet?

Any update on this? I have the same issue with several websites. Editing from backend is OK, but editing by frontend won't save any changes to the text. I do get the frontend with a save and cancel button, but it wont let me save.
Cancel is the only option.
Any help?

a) Have you tried performing the same steps from another browser and different viewing platform (i.e. another PC)? Sounds like a Javascript/browser-caching problem to me.
b) Different problem: you can edit from the frontend but you can't save! The other people using this topic cannot even edit.
c) Why are people still using outdated versions of Joomla? Are you using the current version of Joomla and, if not, why not?

I finally called Advanced Tech support from my hosting provider (InMotionHosting.com).

They quickly diagnosed the problem as a ModSecurity issue.

ModSecurity was denying the action.

So your problem was from configuration of mod security in your host server and not from joomla. That s good that you told us this issue. It will help other users in the feature.

I just realized I have the same problem. Joomla 3.8.7.
Issue persists with Site Template as well as Protostar. Tried PHP 7.0-7.2. Cleared all cache (Joomla and browsers)
Issue persists using Chrome and Firefox

Are you sure that you have the same problem? The problem of OP was in mod security which is in his host server and solved from his host company. If your problem is not the same please create your new topic and tell your problem with details(for example if you have any errors) and not write genneraly. Also update your joomla. The latest version is 3.8.12
